I was just wondering when QM2 will have her first drydock checkup. Maybe some of her "problems" might be remedied during this time.

At the moment QM2's schedule is filled up to January 3, 2006. Don't be surprised to see her go into drydock then or shortly thereafter. If 2005's schedule is anything to go by, QM2 would only be dropping some 7 day cruises if she drydocked at that time.

I though that Cruise ships have a three year period between major serving/dry-docking?

If I'm right that would mean that the QM2 will not be serviced until late 06 or early 07? Mind you I could be wrong, I often am?

Such maintenence would be scheduled. She would only cancel a cruise if she needed urgent attention.

I also heard that the dry-docking will be in November 2005 and probably at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg.... but not official.

I just re-examined QM2's schedule and it looks like you are right. There is a 13-day gap in November 2005. QM2 arrives in Southampton from New York on November 7 and does not sail again until November 20.

Malcolm: QE2 used to have refits every year, usually in November or December. 5-day crossings are a lot harder on a ship than Caribbean cruising. 6-day crossings are too, but probably to a lesser extent. QM2 will need work to be done by late 2005 or early 2006.

The "gap" is marked up in the 2005 brochure as "dry dock"

The question is how many drydock can accomodate her?
I am not sure she woulkd fit into A&P Southampton.
Mind you, her lenght BP might allow it as she has quite a bit of overhang....

the vast majority of pax ships must be dry docked every two years with an under water survey in the other years. some pax ships do have to drydock every year , usually a condition of class.
cargo vessels can go five years between dockings.

In July the German TV said that Blohm + Voss Hamburg would be one of the very few ship yards which could handle a ship of this size for dry-docking... so Hamburg has good chances.

I hope so!
