To be honest, I've somewhat lost touch with what is happening to Royal Olympic and it's two (ex?) newbuilds. I believe both have been sold? Anyway, one of them turned up in Miami this morning. Here are a few pics.

Can anyone give an update regarding these two ships? Thanks.

Ernie

Hi Ernie, I believe the ex. ROC newbuild in Miami is the former ROYAL OLYMPIA EXPLORER (now the EXPLORER of Semester at Sea). The VOYAGER is laid-up somewhere in the Meds I believe.

Yes, it's the EXPLORER, berthed at Pier #6 -- I was just down there a little while ago.

Also, the NANTUCKET CLIPPER is docked today at Pier #12.

Olympia Voyager is now Voyager and is docked at Barcelona, Spain.
She has been advertised as Grand Voyager by Iberojet Cruises, also from Spain.

i think that the Olympia Explorer is used as
a floaing university ...
its shame to see those 2 newbuilds as laden up or being used not for saling
those are really "fuel drinkers" - not economical ships
yet , i think they are quite handsome mid size ships
and i hope to see them sailing again for ROC

If she is sailing for World Explorer Cruises, would she carry cruise passengers as well as students? The old Universe Explorer carried passengers along with students who were doing the semester at sea program. If you look closely at her stern, you can see her name is positioned towards the starboard side. Looks like the 'Olympia' portion of her former name has been covered up.

Voyager, is in Barcelona last time i heard....the differences now are......Voyager has blue paint on part of the funnel and has a yellow star on the funnel where the ROC logo was.........Explorer seems to still have the ROC logo and her funnel is still allwhite as b4......she looks the same exact way as she was b4.

I saw this ship in Miami this morning as she docked behind the Navigator of the Seas which I was debarking. The Explorer did not look at that good to me. Not being kept up very well at all. Did not see many people on the open decks. Just a few crew members.

The ship is a floating University That circumnavigates the world every semester. She just returned from her first voyage last leg Brazil to Miami so she may be a little dirty. Used to be that the Universe Explorer would do Carribean cruises til the next semester but I guess they aren't doing that anymore. My understanding was that this ship was easy on the diesel? Well maybe just better then SSUE. I believe this ship is living a great life as a cruise ship (Oceanliner) she does ply the ocean more than cruise. Anyway she is signed up for 15 years of this occupation.

The EXPLORER will be docked in Miami until Friday, Dec. 17th, according to the Port's website. I managed to get some photos of her yesterday, but am unable to post them.

She does show simply the name "EXPLORER" on her bows and stern.

I'm assuming she is having some kind of wet-dock here, but why in Miami, I don't know. She is due to sail from Port Everglades in early January for her Winter/Spring semester at sea.
