She was once a hotly anticipated ship.... Then she sank at the builders and then the yard went bankrupt... I know that work has been back on for awhile, but I haven't seen or heard of any progress... Are there any new photos, and updates? She should be done by May, which is less then 6 months!

Noordam,

from what I've heard (I haven't been to Bremerhaven since September), most of the work has been inside the ship, hence she still virtually looks like after the accident externally. Also, due to the fact that she has been in drydock since late spring makes it very difficult to take photos.

From what I have read, she is currently on schedule.

Best,

Raoul

I think it is because she is the 1st large U.S. designed/built passengers ship in over 45 years (and a ugly one at that). Considering that about 90% of the work was done in a European yard, I don't understand how she could be classified as U.S. built.

Well its knid of like this. If you can get your wife girlfriend ect onto American soil and have her give birth in the first two minutes shes there then you have yourself a american and can instantly start getting help from our Government. ind of like this Pride of America, born on American soil and will shortly be getting hand outs, will probaly make it four years before they get an exemption to us outside help as we Americans aren't into that service oriented stuff. Want proff go to any midrange restaurant about the same service that you recieve on POA, only the help has not been home in a week and they are cranky.Happy Holidays (another politically correct American greeting!)

Hi,

I just noticed that there are finally two new pictures on the Lloyd Werft website here. They are two interior shots and I don't think they look to bad.

As well this website has three new pictures at the bottom of the page. However you can't see the hull art becasue it is covered in a tarp.

Kevin

Malcolm I think it is the top end of a door way. The room is double in height and you can see the man standing on scaffolding. If you would take the scaffolding as the floor then it could have been a fire place but because the real floor is far below the scaffolding it simply must be an entrance of some kind.

Oh, and the painting is an alcove with a bust in it! Malcolm I think it is time for a pair of glasses

Onno

PS: that must be one of the most ugly and kitsch decors I have ever seen on a ship! At least Farcus carnival interiors are designed with humour in mind, this is just plain ugly and tasteless.

Not that I think the Atrium looks all that ugly in that photo, but I think it will like rather different in its completed state. There's, obviously, going to be numerous changes between what you see in that photo and what you would see when the ship is completed. I think the color scheme will change a bit as well. The glass skylight is made to mimic features of the Capitol Building in Washington, but other areas are likely to change. Especially those engravings on the walls. They are likely to be painted. One of them looks like a portrait of Washington crossing the Delaware...

Wishful thinking!

The resolution of your monitor must be better than mine!

It is difficult to judge from a photo. Some ships decor looks better when you see it in the flesh, others looks worse!

Here is how the atrium should turn out to look....

larger Version

The doorway that Onno mentioned is actually just a window as shown in the picture above. On each side is where the elevators will go.

I am ok with the "ceiling effect" but the "tan/goldish" wall tones doesn't blend too well with how the rest of the atrium will turn out...

I sure do, because in the place where the bust is was initially a small balcony with a person waving! (or so it looks that way in the rendition)

LOL. Actually what Onno said was logical. I was actually trying to figure what which way the LW picture was taken.

Now that the real thing is coming together, the rendition looks out of proportional? Also, in the NCL rendition, it was meant to be a dome, but now it looks like the dome is gone and rather it is now just a ceiling decoration...

The entire space mimics past US flagged liners' interiors of the early 20th century. The Federal/Colonial shipboard interior decor was very popular up until the late 1920s. (when European lines featured sleek Deco, the US shipping lines were far more conservative in their design approach) The rendering is off as in reality the dome is a flat faux stained glass skylight and the window between the elevators is a niche with a bust in reality. This period grand staircase IMO looks like colonial Williamsburg meets Titanic.
