Radisson Seven Seas Cruises will be notifying travel agents and customers today of the sale of Radisson Diamond, Seatrade Insider has confirmed. The ship will be leaving the fleet on June 4, destined for Hong Kong where it will be renamed and operate as a casino vessel.
RSSC had been chartering the twin-hulled Diamond from its Finnish owners.

RSSC will fully refund deposits for canceled sailings. In addition, the line will offer a $700 per person future cruise credit as a gesture of goodwill.

‘The Diamond was our first vessel – a ship that established a new direction for luxury cruising in 1992 – and it’s impossible to say goodbye to her without feeling a sense of loss,’ said RSSC president and ceo Mark Conroy. ‘At the same time, the world of luxury cruising has changed and we greet the future from the helm of our new generation of luxury ships.’

For canceled bookings, RSSC will provide the agency of record with a $100 per booking handling fee and pay full commission on any new booking made for clients in 2005 plus a $100 per guest bonus commission.

And; 'Is that ship arriving or departing?' I was never a fan of her appearance, but she is a revolutionary cruise ship.

She is a wonderful little ship and I will miss her. It's a d@mn shame that she's going to become a casino vessel.

from seatrade insider:
quote:

Despite Diamond loss, business is up at RSSC
26/01/2005
Mark Conroy expects Radisson Seven Seas Cruises to take a $4m hit on lost revenue and bonus commissions related to the departure of Radisson Diamond. But lucky for RSSC, it’s a very strong year, the president and ceo told Seatrade Insider.
The company started 2005 with bookings 40% ahead of where it began 2004, and business over the past three weeks has been robust. Gross volume in reservations is up 23% over the first three weeks of last year, and net bookings -- business that’s stuck -- is up 32% over the early 2004 period, Conroy said.

Radisson Diamond is leaving the fleet in June and sailing into its new life as a floating casino in Stanley Ho’s Hong Kong gaming empire. RSSC had a charter agreement to 2006 with the Diamond’s Finnish owners. But since the cruise line was not interested in purchasing the 1992-built vessel for use after 2006, the owners had the right to sell the ship and they accepted an offer in late December.

RSSC asked the new owners for an extension of the charter until the end of 2005. They were notified on Monday that the owners would take delivery of the Diamond on June 4.

Doenst RSSC have an option to order another all suite, all balcany ship, that expires at the end of the year, or so?

I thought she would be rather fast because of her two hulls, usually catamarans are faster than mono hulls, or is it because she isnt a catamaran and a RSSC, maybe because of her deep draft.

I like the way the Radisson Diamond looked, especialy her interiors, I hope she has better luck being a dinner cruise ship or something else.

nope, i can tell you that she is not fast..... also what i can tell you is that she is rather stable(i think that onbe would expect that tho frum an oversized catamaran).....but she is very slow....and i dont think the fact that she is a SWATH or an oversized cat would make her any faster than a conventional cruiseship. also to your other statement, she is suppesed to go to hoingkong as i heard in april of this year and be turned into a casino ship.......now that we are on this topic of her speed and stuff has any one on cruise talkjed sailed on her....cuz i wanted to know what her pitch and role is???

But now I'm wondering why she is so slow, the website above even said max speed 12.5 knts.
Her interiors look beautiful though.

I don't know what her pitch/roll is but I've hear only 1/5th of a regular monohull ship.

Her slow speed will be adequet as a casino ship. She probably will just sail out to international waters and back overnight...Hard to imagine that she will become a casino ship so early in life...

Just curious, is Stanley Ho planning to operate the RAD DIAMOND along side the OMAR III (former SUN VIKING)? The R.D. possibly be renamed OMAR IV?

Design flaw - the original engines caused so much vibration that they had to downgrade to smaller units.

I went into her engine room (in one of the pontoons). I spoke with an officer and he said the design flaw was not with her engines, but her hull. She couldn't do much more than 13 knots, because of her hull design. Very stable, but indeed slow. Interiors were nothing to write home about.

DEFINITELY!!! A casino ship doesn't need speed, since many of them drop anchors outside. Stanley Ho is planning to make her an upscale casino ship.

I think the ship may be named OMAR V instead of OMAR IV, since "four" sounds bad in Chinese.
