Has anyone done a cruise from Galveston on the Rhapsody of the Seas? How was it? What airport do you fly into and how long is the drive to the ship terminal?

Hi Jeff. I cruises on the RHAPSODY OTS back in August 2003. The ship was lovely and spectacular, despite wear and tare in public areas. The crew was nice and sincere, the public rooms was spacious and welcoming. We had an oceanview stateroom and found it adequet for the week.

We flew into IHA 5 days earlier to explore the Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. We dropped off our rental at Hobby and had a friend take us to Galveston. I forgot how long it took, but the drive from downtown Houston to Galveston takes around 45-50 minutes or more depending on traffic.

The terminal building was roomy and not packed. The only down part was no gangway and one has to walk under the sun on the pier to get to the ship.

Hope all this helps .

We sailed on the Grand Princess out of Galveston a couple of weeks ago. You can fly into Houston at either IAH or HOU (Hobby). We chose Hobby because it is about a 45 min. drive to Galveston vs 75-90 min from IAH (Bush).
We rented a full sized car at the airport(one way rental) for under $25. We stayed the night in Galveston and at about 11 a.m. the next day we checked our luggage at the cruise terminal and then dropped the car off at the rental office. They have a free shuttle to/from the cruise terminal...takes about 5-10 min.
We took the Princess offered transprtation from the cruise terminal back to Hobby. This was a bad move... had to wait about 30 min at the curb until they loaded about 50 people and luggage on the bus and then waited another 20-30 minutes because they had 4 more seats that they wanted to fill. Then another 45 min to Hobby. Cost $32 EACH. The people that were going to IAH were also on our bus and had to go thruogh all of the above plus they had to wail until we and our luggage were off before proceeding to IAH.
Other options from either airport... Airport shuttle to cruise port cost $30 pp each way or $50 round trip, add $10 from IAH. Private limo was about $100 plus tip (seats 3-4) or stretch limo about $135 (seats 6-8). Add about $20-$30 from IAH. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys.We are looking at this cruise or the Zuiderdam. My only worry about the Z is the kids programs. Most lines are open 9a-12, 2pm-5pm and 7pm till1am. I don,t think H.A.s programs are open as long. Thanks for the help!
