Hello,

is true that MSC Melody is under refit now, and in the season of 2005/2006 she will come back to South America?

According to MSC's brochure, Melody's first Spring cruise starts on 15 March, 11 nights circular from Genoa to the Black Sea: Genoa, Naples, Piraeus, Yalta, Odessa, Istanbul, Catania, Capri & Genoa. The schedule includes three whole 'sea days'.

And she's got to get to Genoa before that so I imagine she must be leaving Goa in the next week or so.

Hello again;
You can look at http://www.porto.genova.it/uk/traffico/navi/navi.jsp
There you can see all the ships at Genoa at real time. When you click on the picture you get a new frame with the lay- out from the port of Genoa. Click in the section right under, the map will go down in the direction you want and you will see the Genoa drydock and wet dock. When you hold the cursor over a ship you will see the ships name. So at this moment there are three MSC ships: Monterey (winter lay up); next Melody and next MSC Sinfonia.
I hope you are happy with this

Thanks for answer me. Thats a fun site, they don't have photos but this isn't a problem. I thought that Melody was in dry dock in the Fincantieri Shipyards in Genova and not in the port. Is she under refit or is only docked over there?

What an excellent website! And what a fascinating port Genoa appears to be. I must try to read up a bit about it...

Thanks for your kind words: Genoa is indeed a very interesting port.
There is a nice album (by Pam M)about this city in the photo gallery.
The port is very big and divided in sections: The ponte Andrea Doria and ponte dei Mille are mostly used for cruiseships; on the left side you can see the big cruiseferries to South Italia but also Sardegna, Tunesia, Maroc, etc.
On the very left side there is the cargo harbour and construction of big cruiseships (mostly Costa)
Down right there is a lay-up site including Monterey and some ferries only used in summer.
The site were Melody and MSC Simfonia are sitting now are dry-docks, At the very right side is the beautifully renovated "Porto Antico" with yachts and sailing vessels.
I also have some pic's (I started 4 cruises out of this port) maybe I will make an album later

Great link Johan C. The Port of Genoa has always had a good site, with plenty of info on ship movements etc., but that's certainly an upgrade since I last looked; which may well have been 6 months or even longer ago. It even tells you the dates Melody arrived and when she moved berths within the port.

Genoa is a great place for ship spotting, but you must be on deck when entering/leaving the harbour or you will miss things, as you cannot see across the centre section between the basins too well from the Cruise Terminal [Ponte Mille/A.Doria]. Though you can see all the ferry terminals from there. [Naples is another good place where you also have to be on deck for arriving/departing; I think you are visiting there too Tom?]

If you look in this gallery of mine, Melody & Sinfonia are currently berthed where Song of Flower & Minerva were. Here is a pic of AIDAvita in the drydock and also a view from Costa Allegra's webcam when she was in Drydock there last Nov.

IN your gallery Pam, this ferry is like a hybrid of a Carnival Destiny-class and Carnival Spirit-class...
