I thought Cunard was more into nostalgia the science fiction?
I hope Cunard will learn from the experience because Darth Vader knows how to run a tight star destroyer!

I assume you mean the dark side of the force.

I bet for this occasion the dark emperor Arison of the Carnival empire had placed his Princess troopers all over the ship searching to wipe out those Cunard rebels.

Speaking of Lucas, whatever happened to his original plans for the Star Wars saga? It was supposed to be a trilogy of trilogies....first the middle trilogy, then the trilogy of prequels, and finally a trilogy of sequels. I have seen no mention of the third trilogy since the time "Return of the Jedi" was released.

I just got back from the premier of the new and last starwars movie “revenge of the sith”.
A great movie and feast for the eye (though a bit too many little reminders of the old movies which tend too look like forced links) I won’t tell too much for the fans that still have to wait for the premier.

I’m a Star Wars fan and collector since my childhood (yes I still have the old toys) For 20+ years now all sorts of spin off books have been written before, long before, in the middle, after and long after the first trilogy of 20+ years ago. But those have been written (or like comics drawn) by authors not associated with the Lucas Film company.

Lucas first made movies episode 4 (starwars a new hope in 1977) 5 (the empire strike back in 1980) and 6 (return of the jedi in 1983) he clearly named the first trilogy movies episode 4, 5, and 6 (as seen in the opening titles of those movies) and thus showed, even back then, his intend to make another trilogy for episodes 1, 2 and 3 someday.

During these 20+ years Lucas never announced he would ever make a third trilogy (okay Lucas sees himself as a big artist and artists tend to get new ideas every now and then, so don’t be surprised if eventually there pups up a third trilogy artwork)

In 1997 Lucas restored the first old trilogy and added new computer effects that he has been experimenting with, and that he wanted to further explore for the then upcoming trilogy of episode 1 (the phantom menace in 1999) 2 (attack of the clones in 2002) and 3 (revenge of the sith in 2005) which today has been completed.

Sorry Onno, but Lucas did announce that he was hoping to make NINE Star Wars movies at the time the first movie was released in 1977. The phrase "Trilogy of trilogies" was coined by him in his explanation in television interviews of why the first movie was Episode IV. The planned sequence was Episodes IV, V, VI, followed by I, II, III, followed by VII, VIII and IX. Since I have seen no mention of the third trilogy since the release of "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi", it appears that Episodes VII, VIII and IX will not be made.

BTW, the subtitle "A New Hope" did not appear in the initial release of Episode IV but was added much later.

Hmmm could be Brian, I never read such a statement from Lucas but he was still a young man in 1977 and not yet the sleek and oiled business Lucasfilm is today (which keeps a tight leash on what gets in the media and what not, what is official and what not) If George Lucas announced three trilogies in 77 it could very well be denied today. Anyway I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually a third trilogy would be produced someday with an announcement that the big artist Lucas has always envisioned 3 trilogies.

Remember the Star Wars holiday special made for TV broadcast? I have never seen it myself but apparently it was a very bad piece with special effects scenes literally cut and copied from the first Star Wars movie. Lucasfilm practically denies it’s existence and the holiday special was never realised on tape let alone DVD. (and probably never will be) Just like the old versions (without the special editions of 1997) will never be released as made on DVD. A real pity because I grew up with the original versions and still think they are better then the later released special edition, anyway I still have them on tape.

Are you sure the original movie never got the title a new hope? I know that the original movie has always been promoted as Star Wars on all merchandise, book, records and video covers and for me the first movie of 77 will always be plain Star Wars. But as long as I can remember the movie (not the tempered one from 1997) when the yellow text starts rolling on the screen has always had the subtitle episode IV a new hope. when do you think the subtitle “a new hope” was edited into the movie?

I, like Brian_O, am positive that George Lucas' original plan was for a trilogy of trilogies. I first heard that the third trilogy had been binned when Episode I was about to be released.

For myself, I think good riddance. The first two movies (Episodes IV and V) showed considerable promise of coherent myth, based on classical themes, which would be strong enough to run through nine movies. By the time the Ewoks appeared in Episode VI, it was clear that the merchandising impulse had taken over.

I can't exactly remember when "A New Hope" was first added to the title of Episode IV, but ISTR that it was about the time of Episode VI's release.

There is still one opportunity for a great Star Wars endeavour. A considerable number of books have been written, all under Lucasfilm authority although of wildly varying quality, about other events in the universe in which the movies are set. There is still space for an official history of that universe, of academic quality, which could tie all the events together in a logical and analytical fashion. However, as interesting as that would be, I suspect that it would be far too dry ever to have enough popular appeal to make money - and hence will never be written. Pity.

I did some searching and indeed the ”episode IV a new hope” was added later to the movie. It was added in the re-release of 1981 so that it would be consisted with the opening text of the Empire Strikes back.

Apparently the “episode IV a new hope” line was not allowed 1977 by twentieth century fox because they thought it would be confusing to the audience.
