Well it looks as if Princess will be keeping the two R ships for a little while at least. Anyone know if Tahiti Princess will stay based in the South Pacific full time?

One can only hope those who travel with the Golden Princess have good sea legs, Cape Horn is unpredictable at best - book a mid ships lower deck cabin, those in the "best suites" on Aloha aft will have fun catching the furniture ! Big she may be but little under the waterline. Glad to see the new PP is staying a little longer.

Never been on GOLDEN PRINCESS nor her sisters, but these class of ships are not known for good sea-going capabilities

Does she have to go by Cape Horn, can’t she go by the Strait of Magellan and Punta Arenas?

Amidships yes, but not lower deck. It would be best in the higher decks since the rolling motion is longer and less intense.

Although the Grand-class is probably not the best for world cruising, they still have good sea-keeping abilities, and regarding how much is underwater most of today’s cruise ships have 8.5metres (about 28feet) or less of draft, making the Grand-class not so unique.

Princess Cruises has been featuring Criuses by Cape Horn(Scenic Cruising) and calls at Ushuaia and Punta Arenas via the Beagle Channel(Glacier Cruising) and cruises through the Strait of Magellan to and from Puerto Montt.

Ocean Liners, I was referring to the bad sea state around Cape Horn and its avoidance not whether Princess Cruises did or did not offer cruises through Strait of Magellan or around Cape Horn.

For those who didn't know your information is welcome.

Ocean Liners, instead of Cape Horn and then the Beagle Channel what about coming south around Punta Dungeness (the southern most point of mainland Argentina) into the Strait of Magellan to Punta Arenas and then up the west coast of Chile? Wouldn't this be the best itinerary to avoid any bad weather or do they still go south and use the Beagle Channel?

Sailed on the Golden Princess 2 yrs. ago in the Caribbean. Had cabin E111 forward. We didn't sleep all week due to a very loud banging sound. Sounded like steel hitting steel. Complained and they sent a "Noise Engineer" to the cabin. He told us it was the hull design of the ship. Waves were hitting the hull. Yes, that's what they do. Couldn't change our cabin because she was sailing full. Had a good cruise with Princess despite sleeping at pool each day. Would definitely not sail the Golden Princess around Cape Horn.
