What changed on board the Song of Norway before and after the stretch? What was added and what was removed?

I was on the Sun Viking and Nordic Prince and I can only recall that the only difference may have been the Casino, more public area space, more cabins and a larger pool/splash area. I actually still have a RCCL brochure from 1988 with the ships deck plans. I will take a look tonight and let you know.

I was on the Song of Norway, but only after the stretch.

By the way, it was probably the best cruise I ever went on.

Naturally, cabins were added. The addition created a longer thoroughfare near the pursers desk/excursion desk for an additional shop and office. A dining room "leg" was added, and the pool deck area was almost doubled in size. Both main lounges were reconfigured at this time which made them "cozy" (cramped?). I was lucky to serve on the Sun Viking for 2 years and we always had past passengers that would compare the "triplets" - most preferred the non-expanded Sun Viking. Despite the stretching (Song of Norway & Nordic Prince), they remained relatively spacious ships for the era. Because they had originally been built with small cabins and many large lounges (for their size), they were excellent candidates for expansion. By comparison, I don't think the NCL stretches have been so successful - not nearly enough public rooms or deck space.

I'm sure not an authority, but these were the things I noticed when I went from ship to ship in the 1980's.

I think it's apparent from my earlier posts that I just loved the Song of Norway and Nordic Prince. One of my biggest regrets is not having sailed Sun Viking in her prime. I was a bit too young in those days, however, to have any further influence.

Song of Norway was my first cruise experience and what caused my 'sickness' - haha. I knew after five minutes walking aboard that cruising would be a way of life for me. I then sailed Nordic Prince just a few voyages before her removal from service. I found her to be fantastic as usual. Many found her to be a letdown after the emergence of the mega-liners but she was beautiful to me. I think the tears in my eyes upon disembarking proved that.

There definitely are no ships in the mainstream market quite like them but I can definitely celebrate my history aboard them.

I have many old Royal Caribbean brochures with some stellar photos of their interior and the deck plans. I should really scan them in sometime. I have so many tributes, old photos, etc. that I want to get up on my site but am already backlogged with CURRENT ship photologues I still need to publish this summer!

hi all
i didnt sailed onboard neither the Song Of norway nor the Nordic Prince cause i was too young when those ship were sailed for RCCL , but i sailed onboard the Dream Princess (ex song of norway) and i can say she is still a beauty . her lounges are elegant and specious and her halls full with wonderfull impressive art work (all the art work are from the RCI days , and all of them were remained onboard).
the deck spaces is comfortable and there is room for everyone .
