Here is a shot of PRIDE OF AMERICA taken at 10:30am today in Miami.

Looks like a crane is already removing the outdoor set on the aft deck that housed the Regis & Kelly Live show. I watched a few of the episodes this week and it was kind of fun. Normally I'm not a very big fan of their show. One thing they kept saying was "it feels like we have been on this ship for a month". In fact they had only been onboard for a few days. My guess is they were not enjoying the ship all that much (and being in the constant public eye) and can't wait to get back to NY.

I can only say that LIVE's week aboard the Pride of America was amazing publicity... Every other shot was of the funnel or Regis was saying the name of the ship.... After watching this week, I am pretty impressed with the amount of media coverage for NCLAmerica, and have no doubts that they will be able to fill those ships...

I have also heard a rumor that Kelly Ripa may become the spokeswoman for NCL... Following in the footsteps of her famous predecessor!

Actually, Kathy Lee Gifford was the Carnival spokeswoman.... I have my picture taken from the Celebration years ago standing next to her cardboard cut-out.....

I agree the publicity was amazing! I haven't seen a ship mentioned so much on TV since QM2, and that is saying a lot.

NCL America also made sure they got a logo towel or some other logo item in many of the TV shots.

Very good job by NCL's PR Department. It sure couldn't have been easy to pull this off, especially considering the ship is brand new and still going through teething pains. It must have put quite a strain on the crew, but you would never know it from watching the TV show.

I was hoping for a bit more coverage of the ship itself. Not necessarily to a monopolistic level; they do have a show to do. Just a few more shots of various areas on the ship. Unfortunately, we weren't treated to that. I think I could count two or three shots not done on deck. No matter; the desired effect was achieved, I suppose. After all, we've been buzzing about this ship for quite some time now.

I've just returned from spending a few hours aboard PRIDE OF AMERICA in Miami, for a whirlwind tour and luncheon. I must say that, for the most part, I really liked her interiors, which have been much maligned recently on this and other posts. Maybe I'm so used to Carnival ships, having been on all of them for the past 25 years, that the themed lounges do not upset me.

Some of the photos of the lounges you may have seen do not do justice to the rooms--when you see an entire room and how it's decorated and flows in actual use, the design elements are not too garish.
Even though there is a different theme in each room, you must remember that each room has a different purpose--on ships where they all blandly look alike, it's hard to know or remember the purpose of many of these lounges.

Rooms that I especially liked: the Napa Wine Bar, with nice, 1940's living room look, with upholstered furniture, table lamps, California stone walls, subdued lighting. The S/S AMERICA Library was great with its model and memorabilia. Also the Jefferson Bistro was nice and elegant, as well as the Liberty Restaurant.

Areas which to me looked loud and garish, others may like: the Mardi Gras Nightclub, the Skyline Restaurant, and the Aloha Lido Cafe are examples.

But overall, I think this ship is a winner--there is certainly an abundance of venues for people to eat and drink, as well as be entertained. I think in the Hawaii market, with every day in port, many people won't have a chance to see and utilize all the ship's amenities!

We were served a great luncheon by very energetic American service staff, which I haven't experienced since sailing on the INDEPENDENCE 20 years ago! We have become so accustomed to being served by people from other countries that this almost seemed like going to a theme park or summer resort! Hopefully their freshness and friendliness will last!

Rich

My Gosh! did someone on this forum post a compliment about POA? This goes to show you that us Americans can still build a great cruise ship who needs those foriegn yards when we can produce a ship this beautiful. And by the way with the new wording on the law NCL announced today that they have Ferderal Expressed a bolt, two washers and a lock nut to LLyod Werft and instrucked them to build a cruise ship around it! Cheers to POA Welcome Home see you soon!!!!!
