At least the bridge had the prescence of mind to make enough noise to warn people & thankfully no casualties.

Atleast someone had a head on their sholders durring this incident. Bet it will cost them some money to replace the damaged boats most of them were expensive yachts it looked like.

Listening & watching the TV reports, it sounds as if this was about as well-managed a passenger ship grounding as could be imagined. The captain seems to have been able to pick his spot, the passengers were warned, signals were given to people in the harbour, and there's even a suggeston that the harbour authorities knew about it long enough in advance to clear the 'at risk' area. It would have been better if it hadn't happened, of course, but my reaction is 'well done everybody'.

It'll be interesting to find out why the ferry lost engine power.

Hi,
You're all very accurate in your comments.
The ship lost power just minutes before the usual
'' reverse '' manoeuvres to enter the terminal.
The bridge crew was superb under the circumstances, electing to head towards a marina and damage some boats with minimal human impacts, as opposed to slam in the terminal with considerable more ''crash''damage. The ground personel also acted brilliantly.
Not a soul was injured; half of the marina vessels were not affected; the damage claims are an insurance item for B.C.Ferry Corp.
Even the passengers reaction was great; what's more, EVEN THE MEDIA WAS SYMPATHETIC.....
unbeleivable.
All in all, a tragic mishap that could have been 1000 % worst.
Now, if they can only figure out why the ship lost all power at the last minute.......and this is a ship just
17 days out of a ''mid-life'' drydock !!!!
....and the mechanical failure happens on the 1st
day of our National holiday week-end....!!!
Yes, well done under the circumstances.
Cheers
CG

This reminds me of the SIlja Opera accident in St. Petersburg. Speaking of that, does anyone still have the video of that.

Better to kill or maim a few hundred people than to damage his precious boat? What a moron! A perfect example of the "me, me, me" generation at its very worst. Perhaps the boat owner was just to cheap to insure his boat and is looking for a scapegoat to blame for his predicament other than himself.

Brian
