Sure some of you know about Google Earth but I have been trying to find aerial shots of some ports.

Good ones so far have been Barcelona & Vancouver, but I wanted to know if anyone else could find any great places with ships in port.

Thanks.

Yeah, I had that issue too at first.

Google Maps is the alternative for when it isnt working, but its worth downloading when you can.

A Mac OS X version isn't available yet. Shouldn't be too hard, considering that it's Open GL based...

Distracted is not the word.. I have just been able to get it and play... Grrr. Fabulous. Love this one.

Pam, just found the house I lived all my childhood in! Still there with a small extension, a somewhat greener garden and wow, a tarmac roadway leading from the main road. Amazing

There are three at NYPST. There's a Princess ship in Ft Lauderdale.

Some of the images must be a little out of date 'cos there's a Concord on the tarmac at JFK.

Google Earth is very interesting ... but unfortunately it sometimes causes my computer to have a "fatal crash". Not good. Maybe my graphics card can't handle it? Anyway, Google does state that Windows based notebook PC's older than 2 years may not be able to run it. I think my laptop (I also use it as a desktop with docking station) is two years old, but I'm not sure.

Oh well.

Is the Google site accurate?? I see QE2 and a Princess Grand Class ship docked in San Pedro today. Is QE2 is L.A. today?? I would think she is in Europe.

In that case if you look at the Port of L.A. (San Pedro), there is a good comparison of QE2 and a huge Princess Cruise's Grand Glass ship.

No it's not live, but a 'mosaic' of satellite images all taken at different times. Some are a few years old, some more recent. Look at Barcelona and you'll see a 'join' through the middle of ships Independence is till up in Suisun Bay.

If you get bored trying to find cruise ships, try and find the US NAVY Mothball Fleets:

(1) Up the James River from Newport News, Virginia (over 100 ships)
(2) at Bremerton, Washington's south tip (4 aircraft carriers, 2 battleships, dozens of submarines and cruisers)
(3) in Suisun Bay north of Concord, California (nearly 100 ships)
(4) Philadeplphia Naval Shipyard at the southern tip of Philadelphia, Pa (dozens of WW2 heavy cruises, etc.) and look for the SS United States too east of downtown on the river
(5) and North Central Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii (this is were they filmed the movie Pearl Harbor with Ben Affleck)

Literally hundreds upon hundreds of WW2 up to current decade warships in these places.

Also try www.terraserver-usa.com for cool satellite imagery, and although they may be up to a decade old, still cool to look at.

Was anyone able to find the Norway? That should be an interesting shot. I can't download the software, as I'm running Linux currently. My Windows drive failed, and I haven't gotten to purchasing a new one yet.

There's also some interesting satellite photos at jpl.nasa.gov, the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab site. It's a little troublesome to navigate, though, and there's shots that are a few years old there as well.
