I received an email from Celebrity, via my T/A yesterday, that Millie, which was to undergo a one week or so visit to a shipyard - whether drydocking or not was unclear- immediately prior to her schedule departure from Barcelona on Nov 18th. According to Celeb, the French shipyard that was to do the work went bankrupt last week, and they had to scurry about to find another yard. This they did, in Spain. The time to sail to the new yard; have the work done; and return to Barcelona will cut two days off the front end of the cruise. The Marseille and Rome port calls have been dropped.

Does anyone know the yards involved?

They are making certain adjustments to fares, and are springing for two hotel days in Barcelona for those impacted. I am one.

Maybe this is for Pod (propulsion) problems?

Oh well, Barcelona is a very nice city well worth a few days stay.

Hi, all
She's now drydocked at a shipyard in LaCorunna, Spain. Finally arrived approx 0900 ship time nov 9th,,after having travelled more than 72 hours from barcelona.
Celebrity is taking quite a blow on this one....Last minute changes of locale for a 11 day scheduled drydock are a nightmare. Re-alignment of supplies and manpower, adjustment in crew re-location, tweaking with her first post-drydock sailing schedule, and, in this case, probably having lost the initial deposit given to the Marseilles shipyard which went bust last week....and more....
For once, the infamous propulsion system has not caused this most recent fiasco.
Cambodge, Barcelona is not at all a bad place to be '' stranded'' for 2 additional days....The '' new'' time schedule for all the planned work allows one to be suspicious that a new 2.00pm embarkation nov20th might actually be a '' hard hat'' affair as I'm positive the ''on board--on the go'' portions of the refurbs will still be going on that day.....

RCI will perhaps make a '' share impact'' announcement within next couple of weeks..

Cheers
CG

Is this her? I can't quite tell, looks a bit small?

I think she is also supposed to be having something done to her stern to stop vibrations, but will this be able to go ahead with such a quick change of yard?

Which Marseille Yard went bust? I haven't read anything. Perhaps a backlash from the recent strikes?

Seems like the Mille has a lot of issues. We are scheduled to due an "Around the Horn" in Feb. This is a 14 day cruise. It was supposed to be on the Infinity and changed to the Mille due to dry docking scheduling.
The Crystal ball seems a little cloudy, hope no other problems arise.
I didn't look to see how the ship will progress to Buenos Aires or Santiago. Does it go through the Canal on a cruise and start at Santiago or go directly to Buenos Aires to begin these cruises??

Hi,Pam
Yes, it is her, in the Izar shipyard.
I don't know the name of the facilities which went into bankrupcy approx `1 week ago....perhaps Pascal will know.
Yes, Celebrity is under a tight schedule here....I suspect a lot of the interior softgoods and software work planned during this drydock session will be conducted '' on the go '' while she's sailing back to Barcelona, ...and perhaps in Barcelona itself, if the Izar drydocked time does not allow it to be completed.
Even chopping two days off the 18Nov transcon does not make up for the time in transit to/from LaCoruna, not originally planned as she was to simply go to/from Marseilles....
Her webcam shots, with proper sun angles, are quite interesting. You can see reflections of the big cranes behind her.

Cheers

I had a look at Millennium's webcam today and she was at sea, so on her way on time it seems, for Barcelona.

I think the shipyard in Marseille where Millenium was supposed to be drydocked is the CMR (Compagnie Marseillaise de Réparation). It's not a very large yard (about 140 employees).
