Hi everyone, she's gone!
Yes, Aurora has departed Southampton on her World Cruise and as at 22:50, she's in the Western approaches doing 22knts on her way to Ponta Delgada in the Azores.
She looked beautiful when she departed lit stem to stern.
All I can say is Bon Voyage, and hope that she circumnavigates the Globe without incident.
Wonder how many press people were on call in case??!!

question.....is this the same world cruise that was crashed with the engine problems last year...or another one?

What do you mean with 'same' world cruise? Itineraries for world cruises are rarely the same - even for ships which frequently circumnavigate the world.

I watched her sail past. I was getting a little nervy when there was no movement on the webcam for ages but delighted when she undocked and 28 mins later reached me. Tried out the new digital camera but it's hard to focus at night. Got a couple of good shots though. Pity the same can't be said of Oriana tonight.

I saw in yesterday's Mirror adverts for the 2007 Grand Voyage and it said, "Book Now! Selling Fast!"

BTW: Aurora has been sailing without problems during the last months. (as far as I know - correct me if I am wrong) What is the difference between the begin of the world cruise any other departure? I would have been nervouse at her first departure after the repair - but now.....

I know it is acutally a bit different - if she would have failed today this would have - in difference to any other day - caused a lot of bad press - but I would suggest not to join the rather artificial hysteria around this ship.

It was only a handful of people who moaned last time demanding proper compensation and threatening to sue. P&O did everything they could. How many pax, I wonder, were the same ones that were meant to be sailing last year?
