http://www.ifilm.com/superbowl?htv=12 you can view it down on the right near the bottom...

P.S.

WAY OFF TOPIC, but...

Dont forget to view all the other Superbowl commercials, some are very funny, one under Anheuser-Busch called Budweiser: Clydesdale American Dream was quite cute.

After seeing that trailer, I wonder... is it time to sell the cruiseline shares; will there be empty capacity and cheap cruises?

Seriously though, the original Poseidon Adventure (and Titanic) had an effect on the general population and must surely have had some effect on sales.

How should a badly done film affect the cruise industry? Speed 2 has also been irrelevant.

Agreed. No disaster film has had a significant effect on the travel industry, unless you count JAWS to which most people went to the beach, but wouldnt go in the water that Summer.

People can still differentiate between Hollywood and reality. The film looks interesting enough though to pay $4 at a Saturday matinee.

Not true. I've read several travel articles that said cruise travel increased considerably after "Titanic" (1997) was released.

I recall the same stats regarding how the movie TITANIC increased cruise sales...

My fault, I should have said 'negatively impacted'...

Obviously it won't affect anybody who knows anything about the cruise industry, but maybe, just maybe, it'll make someone think again about booking that first cruise.

Once this film has been released you only need a freak wave like the one that hit the NCL cruise, for all the news channels to go into overdrive.

Ernst I agree with you about Speed 2 - that was obviously a load of tosh - but a well made, successful film, played for realism (like Jaws and Titanic), IMHO, will have an impact of some sort.

I am sure there are also a lot of people whose lack of knowledge stops them from considering a cruise. EG one of the comments I had was, but I wouldn't like to sleep below the water line!

1. Its seems as if this film will not get too much attention. (unlike Titanic) And even then I do not believe that there would be a negative impact.

2. I do not think that an event like a freak wave hitting a cruise ship will get much more attention because of another movie on this topic - this is masked by many other MUCH more important factors. Also, the footage of such an event is rather unspectacular.

3. Speed 2 was really bad - but it is very obviouse that this will be EVEN WORSE.

4. Lack of knowlede is genereally the number one reason why people do not go on a cruise vacation. It is difficult to get them on a ship - but most then find out how fantastic it is and return. I do not see how such a film should change anything in this respect.

5. On modern cruise ships there are no passenger cabins below the water line.

The movie looks like fun. I'll go see any movie that has a cruise ship in it. I still enjoy watching the horror movie "Ghost Ship".

CBS launched another Poseidon movie last year, but this time the cause of the catastrophe was a terrorist attack.

I wonder about the new FOTS. If a rogue wave ever hit it broadside if it would capsize?? It sure looks top heavy.

She doesn't look that top heavy up close. I keep reading she is 47m wide and this must be where all those extra tonnes come from.

As for the movie - dare I say it, I'm quite looking forward to this.

All of the heavey machineary and the tons of fuel, food and water are low down in the ship creating a low center of gravity. The upper decks are made of aluminium, not steel, so she a lot more stable than she appears.

That's not the width at the waterline (hull), which is the same as the Voyager-class, it's all the protrusions out of the superstructure.

If she doesn't capsize, I wonder how much damage could be caused by a 100-foot breaking wave hitting her broadside with all that aluminium in her superstructure? I think there would be a few large dents in her.

I just came back from The Poseidon Adventure Fan Club Reunion...and from what I'm hearing, it's no way going to be like the original, where we cared about the characters. It's all going to be about pyrotechnics and CGI...that's it. Petersen will lose his shirt on this one $175 million down the drain.....

Remember this is fiction and entertainment. I'm sure the special effects will be a lot better than the original movie. I like the Harry Potter movies,no foul language, sex, violence-well a little bit. I'm sure most cruisers will go see this new movie.

So far the critics are mixed, but you know how THAT goes...

Peter Travers of Rolling Stone says:

You'll end up entertained if you forgive the cliches and let Petersen grab you with the visuals, from the avalanche of water in the ballroom to the eerie sight of a flooded crawl space where wires take on the form of deadly tentacles. One of the bigger names in the cast has a drowning scene that really had me going. You don't expect a remake to spring surprises. This one does.

Me...? I'm going to the 10:30pm showing on Thursday night. Looks like the 'large popcorn combo' kind of movie!
