...any updates or pictures? She's due to 'launch' in about 10 weeks.

It's totally ridiculous. Even their site hasn't had any news since last May last time I looked! She's meant to be here on the 30th April calling in for 4 days.

Massive operation was started as fire alarms hinted there was fire in Freedom Of The Seas.

It turned out to be false alarm.

Have no idea what you mean by "launch". But she is going to be delivered in FOUR weeks!

This gets more confusing with those dates. No wonder they're not updating their site. They'd have to do it a lot! LOL! Hope no one misses out due to the delay - especially us!

Sea trials took place before Christmas.
Louise Calder is Godmother and did not write any essay. She has much better "qualifications".

I'm hoping there won't be, recab. I really want to see her. Though sbtagent did say she was originally due in Oslo on the 24th but now the 27th so that's at least 3 days. I remember Grand Princess was meant to call in here en route to the States but was delayed a week so went straight there. You never can tell with newbuilds when some snag will come up until they're on their way. I'm erring on the side of caution.

Greetings Cruise Talk members,

Just thought I should mention the reason why "Freedom of the Seas" is being delayed. A few weeks ago, I read on the CruiseCritic website that during the ship's first sea trials in December, dirt was detected in one of the pods' systems, believed to originate from the time of construction. Since it is not possible to drydock the vessel in Turku, she must go to Blohm+Voss for cleaning of the pods, delaying the inaugual events.

PS: I'm new to posting on these boards, but have been following the activity on Cruise Talk for quite some time. As an avid passenger ship fan, I find the different topics and posts both informative and entertaining!

Freedom of the Seas:

17.04.2006 arrival at BLOHM + VOSS shipyard in the morning + dry-docking

21.04.2006 - 22./23.04.2006: sea trials in the north sea + back to the yard.

24.04.2006: leaving the yard for Hamburg Cruise Terminal

25.04.2006: 10.00 leaving for Oslo

Unclear is a short cruise 24.-25.04.06 to the NOrth Sea. It was planned, but actually no new information.

Welcome, shipsnorway, and thanks for the info!

Thanks, Karsten, for the update. I'm getting excited at her arrival here and I expect people in Germany and Norway are too. She will be quite a sight.

Welcome aboard shipsnorway!
Actually the bearing problem is not the most important reason for the delay. Both yard and buyer usually have extra time in reserve for unexpected events. But no one can rule Mother Nature and looking at the ice chart these days is absolutely no fun! So please pray for warmer weather and NE winds in the Baltic Sea!!

Believe me, recab, I'm close to actually praying for the ice conditions to improve as I'm supposed to sail with "Freedom of the Seas" on a one-night cruise in the Oslo fjord and would hate to see it being cancelled!

Anyway, here is a more specific time schedule from Royal Caribbean:

Wed 26/4: Arrival Oslo at 1400
Thur 27/4: Departure for Southampton 1530

Thanks for the warm welcome!
