Thanks Linerdan. Saw the preview while watching a repeat episode on Saturday arvo, and also caught a glimpse of the FlowRider. Get those VCR/DVD recorders warmed up, it's going to be interesting.

they had a segment years ago when Voyager just came out and it was the 'worlds largest' then. I'm sure that if its the same reporter, she'd probably thinking this thing looks damn remarkably familiar!

From what I saw on the preview it should be giggling blonde Shelley Craft.

I saw that item on Freedom of the Seas last night and that whole ship looks like a shopping mall cum
fun park cum crazyhouse cum health spa all rolled into one frighteningly big package.Frankly,it scared the bejiggers out of me.

And,that annoying reference to the Titanic, really set
my teeth on edge, why do they say that?,there's no
comparison.

Still,if RCI plays their cards right, she'll be just as sucessful as her sisters, makes me wonder just what
RCI have planned for the Genesis Project...

Maybe the worlds 1st onboard Roller Coaster....
just think..

she's a Shopping mall/funpark/nuthouse/healthspa
/amusement park...all rolled into one GREAT BIG
scary package...thanks but no thanks

We saw the article too - hard to imagine you're on a ship when you are inside.

It's ironic that they use the Titanic reference -when 90% of the people watching have no real idea of how big Titanic was. But it seems to be a 'media rule' that when you're describing a ship you compare it to Titanic. The same way as anything British is described in the number of double decker buses, and American things are so many Statues of Liberty or Empire State Buildings.

Ok i just watched (had to tape from night before) , and yes its a floating shopping mall combined with a place to eat and sleep. Will be great fun for those who take off for 7 days and unwind from work.Did anyone else notice that at the end when Shelly was talking about the dining room , they had the music from Titanic as background music.

When they did a feature on QM2 (2 years back)they also had Titanics theme music as background music.

She's awesome, but I agree with Teva. Cruise ships like this are not my cup of tea, though, having said that, if I got offered a really, really good price, I'd consider it just for the wow factor.

agree with the titanic comments... i noticed in last years brochure of sapphire princess they were comparing it to 'more then twice the size of titanic'

the review was interesting to watch... pity bout the english weather! did they show the showroom/theatre? i think i could handle a week in that presidential suite with about 10 or so friends to make the cost a little more affordable!

You know, with Princess Cruises,(a unit of Carnival Corp, the "NewsCorp" of the the cruising world) I have to give them snaps for sensible design & size
of their ships. The Grand class doesn't venture too
far into the 100,000GRT range,Caribbean Princess
is 'only' 116,000GRT,and,in my own opinion,I think the basic design of the Grand class is still fresh, with just enough variation from ship to ship to keep that
'fresheness'.

Freedom,by contrast looks very similar to her Voyager class siblings, but with her own design
variations, and larger of course. She just looks so
flat hulled and tall, sorry to say it but I think she looks like a office block, laid on its side,on top of a barge.

The Grand class design,if you understand her design is mean't to be a modern representation of a 17th Century Galleon, nautical features in the form
of the curved, stepped superstructure front & flared
bow,to the gradually increasing height of her super
structure aft,the fully enclosed bridge forward that contrasts and compliments the pod enclosed club at
her stern...when I see a Grand class liner,I see a classic,I can't say the same about RCI's Voyager
class or P&O/HAL/Carnival & Costas annoying Destiny/Vista class,Costa Fortuna, for example is nothing more than a slightly revised Destiny class ship, with the Costa steamer funnel in place of the traditional winged Carnival funnel.

The same can be said for Vista,HAL has several of this type,P&O has one,in the form of Arcadia, and Cunard will have one in the form of Queen Victoria
and that, from a design point of view,at least for me
spells....

B.O.R.I.N.G

Any other thoughts?

Teva

Looked remarkably like the Voyager storage a few years ago, even the exact same shots of her talking in the Royal Promenade, then panning out. Just my 2 cents
