Hi everyone, not a good day for watching the ships down on the front, so I had to settle for a hot coffee and watch from home, so in the space of half an hour...

I'll leave it up to you which is the best!!

Nice view from home! All I've seen is the mail carrier going by.

I would rather be on any one of the three right now.

Great pictures Andrew! ORIANA looks like a modern CANBERRA with the lifeboats placements and upper decks.

It amazes me that from a side view the SEA PRINCESS looks more stylish than the LEGEND OF THE SEAS.

Gosh I really feel for you having those monsters passing your front window every so often Can't imagine why you bought a house with that view.. goodness, such a hard decision to have to make, as to whether ones stays in with a coffee or braces the cold wind and rain being thrown at us at present.

Great photos... seeing all 3 lined up, what strikes me is their 'attitude'. Legend is 'laid back', Sea Princess is 'take it or leave it' and Oriana is is a 'go getter'.. just my impression from the angle of the masts & funnels nuts maybe.

But I do think Sea Princess has the nice bow, Oriana is the only one with a decent funnel [bar the colour].. pity no sterns.. as that would leave Oriana the outright winner, but just with that side view I don't think there is one. Legend looks very 'bitty'.

No discusion possible ms. Oriana loved that ship so much she is my favorit non HAL ship.

She is Englands most beautifull passenger liner.

Greetings Ben.

Oriana is definately the best looking. Sea Princess is good to except I think the way you can see inside its funnel that it makes the funnel look ugly and unfinished. At least on the newer Grand class ships they did a better job of hiding those pipes.

I have always thought the Legend looks alright in other photos. But with the detail in that photo it does not look attractive. I do think the viking crown lounge off the funnel is a good touch though.

Actually, I wonder if the key thing about Oriana's side elevation is the way the stanchions between the lifeboats are sloping forward? Adds a touch of dynamism, and also the angle is echoed at quite a few other places on her elevation, both on the same deck and just aft of the bridge. This gives the elevation a harmony which we perhaps don't consciously notice, but which we respond to.

Sea Princess doesn't seem to have many diagonals, almost entirely verticals, so there's a fair degree of harmony there, but Legend is a bit of a mish-mash in this regard.

Didn't Canberra have this appearance as well? And wasn't this one on of the features of that ship that was deliberately echoed in Oriana?

Thanks for all the kind comments about my photos, yes, we are very lucky living where we are having such a great view of the ships!

Without doubt, Oriana is the best looking ship of the trio, and I think the Sea Princess is quite a nice design, apart from the stern which is ugly, if only the "Sun" class had an Oriana/Aurora/Artemis styled aft end.

Tom, Oriana's design brief was to echo some of Canberra's characteristics, such as the layout of the public rooms, and as you have commented, the slanted stanchions for the lifeboats on the Prom Deck.

If you get a chance, see if you can pick up a copy of "Oriana, from Dream to Reality", this is a superb book. I'm not sure if its on general sale, but there is always normally a copy on E-Bay.

Andrew

You are right, Not only was Canbarra the prototype for the modern day mega cruiser, but also during the design process of Oriana they clearly choose resembling elements with Canberra.

Indeed nice pictures Andrew. I also must say Oriana is the winner of these three ships, Sea Princess however has some exiting design elements (exterior wise and for the eye of the photographer)

Ooh, you nesh bugger, Andrew. LOL! I fully understand why you chose warmth to being blown about and wet. That's why I got lazy. Views are better (especially if you have a decent zoom) and yours is better than mine because you haven't got those houses and overgrowing trees narrowing it year after year. LOL! They are great pics. I love the Sun Class but hate Sea Princess now she's got that screen. Now when are they going to let Oceana pass her? She always goes on time and ruins it!

Question...
Where have all the "P&O" logos disappeared to? 1st
I noticed it on the Star Princess while she was under
repair at Meyer-Werft,& now,it's missing again....on
the Sea Princess....shape of things to come?,could Carnival be separating the long link between P&O &
Princess Cruises by erasing the logo?.do they have no shame?.
