From Seatrade Insider:

No injuries in Norwegian Crown grounding
7/6/2006
Norwegian Crown ran aground this morning while en route from St. Georges to Hamilton, Bermuda. The ship was under the navigational guidance of a local pilot.
There were no injuries.

Norwegian Cruise Line said an initial inspection indicates the integrity of the ship has not been affected. A full damage assessment will be conducted by a team of divers during the day.

NCL is tendering passengers to shore so that they may spend the day in Bermuda as planned. Between 5 and 7 tonight during high tide, the ship’s captain along with assistance from local tugs will attempt to move the vessel and take it alongside in Hamilton.

NCL said it is working with local authorities to determine what caused the grounding.

Norwegian Crown is expected to return to Philadelphia on Sunday, as scheduled.

More pictures!!! I think I see a hole in the last frame. Passengers described today’s events as a “mild inconvenience.”

Cruise ship freed from sandbar

Regular cruise ship caller Norwegian Crown ran aground between Dockyard and Spanish Point this morning, but was pulled free by three tugboats this evening.

The ship is expected in Dockyard tonight, skipping Hamilton as a port of call.

Joe Simas, shipping manager for Meyer Shipping — the local agent for Norwegian Cruise Lines — said divers examined the ship and didn’t find any damage. Once the vessel reaches Dockyard, divers will do another search for signs of damage.

As the ship was "under navigational control" of the local pilot, but given that the Master is always ultimately in charge of his vessel, who gets the blame for this ... and who picks up the bill?

i would guess that the pilot is
resposible and foot the bill for
the tugs. according bermuda maritime law a pilot is required
to navigate the ship into port.

I guess I never thought of this until now, but is the bulbous bow of a cruise ship 'hollow' or is it compartmented? If the ship was refloated, and there was a gash in the bulbous bow (I see what looks like a gash in the last picture above) how easily is this repaired so she can sail back to Philadelphia?

OK, Here's one I really don't have any idea about. Why do the have a Bulbous Bow instead of just a knife edge bow. Is it Hydro Dynamics or something??

Well it is said that the most aerodynamic shape is the teardrop, so I would guess that it must be somewhat similar for hydrodynamics as well.
