In general I find the models sold on cruise ships either those poor pottery 'renditions' or some overpriced thing in a glass case. I once saw a ship with its own Revel or Heller model onboard though.

I have quite a few of those "Blue Boxes" and models from several cruise lines--but nowhere is there any info on either the box or the model regarding the manufacturer!
Chris, ask someone in your gift shop--they should know where these come from.

But still, for $25 they are fun to have and to be able to say "I bought that aboard in xxx"

The price was very good: just $ 21 that it's quite cheap in €.
The model is ok, many details of the ships, but I believe that the lenght isn't right if compared with the height. The ship appears too short.
The Norwegian Dream sports the new NCL logo on the funnel and another logo appears in the afterward part of the hull.
It isn't good because the Dream still has the old NCL logo on the funnel, with the golden letters.
Previously I have seen a very nice model of the Carnival Valor and one of the Costa Atlantica that was just so so even if the vendor said that it was made by ceramic...
As a frequent guest of Costa Cruises I get a metal model of the cruise ship (made in China) as a gift at the end of every cruise.
So now I have the models of the Costa Riviera, Tropicale, Allegra, Europa, Romantica, Atlantica and Fortuna.
They are not bad, but as they are made with metal there isn't almost any detail of the ships.
The models of the Atlantica and Fortuna are more detailed and the funnel sports the Costa colours.

My most recent acquisitions--BRILLIANCE/SEAS, NORWEGIAN SPIRIT & NORWEGIAN SUN, have the gold label with the ship specs, but no info. on the maker--bottom portion of label is blank. (These were the ones I looked at when I made my earlier post.) But looking at the other models from earlier times, I do indeed see the Holiday Int'l. info.
I am in a long break from cruise ships . The boxes with the products in shop ar shipped from the main company in Miami , named Flagship . I will ask my friends on board maybe we can get same info from the large boxes that are shipped .
quote:Originally posted by DAMBROSI:Hey Linerrich....just saw the name of another company very similar to Passport Products. They made the same type of models...ever hear of Transocean?? Saw a model of RCCL ship on the model section on Ebay. It's one of the models I think was the NORDIC PRINCE??
Transocean was the name of the company which had the Royal Caribbean gift shop concessions back in the 1970s and 1980s. It was a California-based company. They apparently made those ceramic models for sale aboard RCCL ships--I have the SUN VIKING, NORDIC PRINCE and SONG OF AMERICA models--never did get a SONG OF NORWAY!

Sun Lakes is a residential community outside of Phoenix (near Mesa), Arizona. It may be a one person operation making these models out of their home as they are not even listed in the phone book.
quote:Originally posted by Thad:There was another company back in the mid 1980's as well called Montego Products. Their models were made of bisque I think, though maybe they were an early resin product.
I've got the ROTTERDAM and ROYAL PRINCESS models, too, when I sailed them. I've also got HOLIDAY and JUBILEE. Montego Products was based in Vancouver, BC, but seem to have gone out of business by the late '80s.
