Hi,
So, I found out some info about this ship. Bad news. Once again Carnival, in a marketing move, decided to call this a new class when all it really is, is the concordia class with a whale tail. Its gonna have a two deck spa and the middle pool is going to be glass covered.
So no new class for carnival.

You had any doubts? Carnival are pros when it comes to marketing something "brand new", and in reality it turns out to be just a re-hash of the same old thing. People buy into though, and I guess that is what really matters.

I hate it when Carnival does the same thing again, I've been waiting for something new since 1996 when Destiny was launched, Splendour will be just bigger than Destiny with some new things.

There was the Spirit class in 2000 which was quite new, but it's true that for their post Panamax, it's still the old Destiny class which was barely modified in Conquest, itself barely modified in Concordia...
They still can do this a long time...

With future refurbishments and constant updates these 'new' clones, be it from a Destiny-class or Spirit-class, will be around for many, many, MANY decades. YEA! (throw in a hint of sarcasm).

Guess we better get used to them.

Do you all feel that they are going to spend the extra money ( i mean they could do it) to build an entirely new class of vessel as yet?...They are still basking in the glory and success of the Destiny/ modified Destiny class.

I've read something, I don't remember where, which told that Carnival actualy had the blueprints of a new class of post panamax ships, but that they had a hard time finding a good price for its building.

It's true that the Destiny/Conquest/Concordia don't cost much any more to build.

There's a story about "The Emperor's new clothes".

Carnival cannot fool all the people, all the time. They grew very quickly through agressive acquisitions, and can disappear just as fast.

Remember Enron?

I would buy shares in RCI for the "long haul" but never in Carnival Corp unless just for a quick in and out.

Too many investment analysts look at market performance rather than the actual business.

Actually, I think that RCI takes much more risks with projects like Genesis than Carnival with all their acquisitions. Carnival Corp seems to take only the most safe and conservative options. The eternal Destiny class issue shows that well. They are cheap to manage and to build. No conception costs any more and most of their customers don't seem to complain. They are the perfect cash cows.

It's up to RCI, which is the number 2, to be innovative and to take risks. And I'm glad to see that they play the game boldly.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: why tamper with a successful formula, no matter who thinks it's a "been there, done that?" Carnival will milk as much as they can from this design, much as they have with the Vista class hulls. Why? Because for them, it works.

Princess does the same thing with the Grand-class ships. The Diamond and her sisters are really no different than the Grand and her sisters other than Skywalker's being relocated. Oh, and the former are apparently Mitsubishi ships, not Fincantieri ships.
