I have'nt been on one..but I've got a friend of mine who is coming from Hawaii in a couple of weeks. He wants to know how it is for adults on board. He's going to be with relatives on this trip...but wants to know how it is for the adult only class. Let me know as soon as you can and thank you very much.

Last January we went on Disney Magic.

The ship looked ready for a refit, the cabin in particular was very tired and grubby.

Palo, the reservations only supper club, was superb.

Otherwise, not a patch on Carnival, Princess or Royal Caribbean.

I was on the Disney Wonder (magic's sister) in May on a 3 night Bahamas cruise. I went with three other adults. Are age range was 25-30 and we had a blast! There were 600 kids on board but it didnt feel like it. All my other cruises on Carnival, RCI, Celebrity, NCL kids are running all over the place I barely saw that here. They are well entertained as well as the adults. Adults have three lounges that are adults only, an adult only spa, adult only pool and lounge area, adult only coffee shop, adult only dinning room - PAlos which was excellent and there was an adults only beach at their private island! I wish the other lines had more adult only. As for service I thought it was very good and the food was better then my last cruises on NCL and Costa. The only thing I would say is that if the person is looking for Vegas style shows and casinos you wont find it here. There shows were mainly Disney. While they were excellent in calibur, I am not a huge Disney fan so I grew tired of them but there was still plenty going on! keep in mind I cruised with other adults, two of which this was their first cruise and one of them does not car for family oriented things and was pleasantly surprised that the cruise catered to adults as well

Name a ship that attracts more kids than adults?

I don't think I have ever been on a ship with that many kids. Not knowingly anyway.

O.K. I meant proportionally less kids than one might expect.

That's what Disney Cruise Line has always said, that they get more couples than families, the same as their theme parks. Supposedly Disney World is even a top honeymoon destination!

Yeah I could see why. I have been a TA for 10 years and I have sent many honeymooners to Disney in Orlando, Florida. At first I would be like why on earth would they want to spend it there!!! Since then I have visited many times and stayed at some of their "top" resorts and I have to say I could see why of course its not for everyone but there is a sort of romance and simplicity to it all. It does make you feel like a kid again and all of those dreams you had and still have will come true. I know it sounds corny but it kind off has that effect on you. Also as an aside Dambrosi I think both Disney ships are very elegantly designed inside. Very handsome quality built ships!

I am sick of saying it but Disney is overpriced rubbish. Food sucks, entertainment is infantile and - whilst Palo is excellent - it is hugely overpriced compared with even the free options on other ships. RCCL and Princess are miles better.

I can't speak for Disney Magic or even anything about Disney Cruise Lines lately, but I remember my cruise on Disney Wonder in August 2002. I won't go into a lengthly review, but I can say that though I thought the food was good I must agree the theme is taken way too far and it is very overpriced. That said, however, if there are any families that would like to do a Disney vacation- this probably wouldn't disappoint them. The Adults and Childrens both have their own areas (I think the Adults-only areas consist of a pool and a whole complex of public rooms!, the cabins are plenty large, and the food and service seemed perfectly fine to me. Once the whole Disney thing is out of your system, however, a cruise on Disney Cruise Lines would probably have you gnashing your teeth. Judging how tame and family-friendly their family entertainment was, what the adults entertainment was probably hardly too risque for anyone...more of a commentary on what the children were allowed to see than the purely adult entertainment though.

It is my understanding that, because of well-known astronomical developments, Pluto has been fired from service on all Disney vessels. Can anyone verify this development?

Disney looks like they got the family cruises right, nice ships, lots of things for families to do. But what is up with the price? Your paying50% for a family friendly ship? RCL is great for kids anf families, I don;t see why you have to pay such a price.

We have friends and faily who were just on a cruise with us, they are considering a DIsney cruise, I immeediatly said, its way overpriced, Im just hoping they take my advice and stick with RCL, if they go along with Disney, thats way over my travel budget having to fly there to, Ill be forced to back out.

I know I am going to get yelled at here!!! Having sailed on Sovereign out of Porrt Canaveral and doing the Disney cruise twice (most recently in May) plus I just sailed the Explorer two days ago you most of the time get what you pay for. Sovereign was a lovely ship, food was nice and I would do it again. But I felt Disney had better food entertainment and service. The entertainment itself in the main showroom (though ALL Disney geared and not my favorite since I am not a Disney fan) was all truly Briadway calibur. I see many Broadway plays and one of my travel mates lives at the theaters and was impressed. And the ship maitenance was great! As I said I just came off the Explorer which I was fascinated with in regards to ship design. I beleive she is a bit newer then the Wonder but she had a nice amount of wear and tear. The Wonder looked practically new compared to the Explorer. Keep in mind the Disney ships has a lot of kids on it and does 3 and 4 nighters. I just think after doing over 20 cruises that Disney has a higher level of service and onboard atmosphere that is more on par with a premium line such as Celebrity (which I have sailed on). I am not saying Disney is luxury but I have to say it was a bit more upscale to me then Royal or Carnival.

One of the areas I noticed quickly was that Disney seemed to tome down the nickel and diming atmosphere (its still there of course). Case in point on the Explorer they were selling jewelry by the link right outside of the buffet dinning room. To me that is tacky. The stunning Royal Promonade was littered daily with tables of sales. It cheapend the atmospher. When I sailed Disney in 02 they did similiar things. This time I found it was toned down. To people who want to pay the prices of Disney expect not to be in a tacky atmospher. I work with a nice amount of luxury travel clients and as nice as the Explorer is I would not recommend it because it does not fit that type of traveller.

I hope I rationalized my point! I must sound like I work for Disney!! Honestly I am not huge fan of the Disney companies. I just was impressed by their ships.

We sailed on the Magic this last Jan with the grandkids. This was our son's family first cruise and our fourth. I have to agree that they are overpriced but we had a great time. The shows were outstanding but we felt the food was average.

The rooms were large and very comfortable. Great service and one that will provide memories for many years. Would we sail on her again? No, but at the same time I would not discourage someone from doing it. I met many people who had sailed on Disney many times, without children, and love it.

yep, I'm going to agree that it is very overpriced.

We have sailed on both the Wonder and the Magic with our 4 kids (3 teens and a pre-teen). We booked inside cabins and it was still very pricey.

HOWEVER, I am glad we did it! We all loved the cruise, the ship, and since we all love Disney, it was really a great experience.

Now that we have 'been there, done that' we are switching over to Carnival. We all enjoy cruising, but have seen both Disney ships and they are basically identical.

What I don't understand is the people who cruise on the Magic year after year after year -- I mean, we all have our own opinions so I'm not trying to put anyone down. But IMO, if you've seen the ship and the ports why pay mega $$$$$ to do it over and over?

Anyway, we are looking forward to our upcoming Carnival cruise and have booked two balcony cabins for way less than those two inside cabins on Disney.

Oh and to answer the question - our last cruise was November 05. The Magic was in top shape and workers constantly painting or washing or something! As with most Disney owned property, the attention to detail is superb. Yes, Disney has a lot of class and it shows on their ships.

I think many of the Disney repeaters are the same type of people who repeatedly go to the Disney theme parks and resorts for their vacations. They know the product is consistantly good, their kids will have a great time, and they are happy doing it every year.

I personally don't "get" the whole Disney thing, no appeal to me. But I recognize that they have a superb product and they serve their market very well.
