Hello CTF mates

Just to let you know that according to a reliable source the former :

EX M/S CROWN MONARCH 1990, CROWN CRUISE LINE
EX- M/S CUNARD CROWN MONARCH 1993 CUNARD LINES
started to operate from 1994 as a gambing casino ship in Asia mainly in Hong Kong and Singapore
EX- M/S NAUTICAN 1994-1995 WIDE ASIA LIMITED
EX- M/S WALRUS 1996 - WINBOND SHIPPING LTD
EX- WALRUS aka HEAVENS STAR 1997 LINES INTERNATIONAL HOLDING
EX- WALRUS aka NEPTUNE 1998-2005 by Neptune Holdings
2006-07-31 sold to Champs Elysses MV Ltd,Panama..aka Club Cruise Netherlands...

Was acquired by Club Cruise Netherlands and will be renamed as: M/S JULES VERNE

According to the same source it will be chartered to the British cruise market...probably to the operator Voyages Jules Verne...

Can someone give updated news concerning this matter?

Does someone knows where she will be rebuild? Which shipyard, what type of rebuid?...

Officially she will be the 12 cruise ship foreseen for 2006 31 Dec St.Sylvester's nigth here at Madeira...beat this!!!

I look forward for your comments...

D

Very interesting. She apparently left Singapore at the end of June. The info then was that she would be refitted by Club Cruise and chartered to a French Company. So now she is to sail for the UK market... VJV do some excellent trips all over, and have interesting itineraries for their coastal & ocean cruising, the latter mainly aboard Discovery.

Walrus was to have sailed under charter to Travelscope last year, but Club Cruises' purchase fell through for some reason. Now it seems all is going ahead and with VJV. I can't find any info on either VJV's or Kuoni's website regarding this, but must be early days.

As to where the refit is taking place.. I have no idea. All seems quiet.

There are certainly quite a few ships, big, small old and new heading for the UK next summer. If not cruising from UK ports, many are at least dedicated to UK passengers.

We have never had so much choice.

Nice to read the CROWN MONARCH is still going to be around. Tony and I sailed on her in '93. Excellent interiors...when I get all settled in my new apartment, I'll scan some and post them on the message board. Just a gorgeous ship.

Nice website, oh lala!
Jules Vernes is very much celebrated in France.
Would be nice if the brits named a ship after Brunel?
I notice a nice picture of the late Albatros..is the website up to date?

Dear sslewis,

This site is updated often,

In this article, thez explain that the WALRUS was bought by Club Cruise (Netherlands), and chartered on the French market, but that thez axplain too Club Cruise also own the Van Gogh and the Albatros, who replaced the old Albatros (in photo), scrapped in 2004.

It is for that there is the photo of the old "Albatros"

Mon ami Mickael

"Comme vous etes Français..." can you tell us which french tour operator will she be chartered?

Do you think that she will operate under a new company or to an old cruise operator like Voyages Jules Verne...or other?

Does someone know which shipyard she will be undertake conversion works?

Merci, thank you and obrigado!!!

Dear shipping agent,

we wait to know which is going to charter the Walrus, but I would lean for Transtours (who actually charter Arion and Princess Danae), for cruises in Europe in spring, summer and autumn, and in Caribbean in winter...

But these are only assumptions...

At least a french speaking ship whith nice itineraries and very reasonnable prices (1069€ for 18 days is an amazing value!)!
The ship is a bit old but I'm sure this operator is doing it the right way. I wish them great success.

Our dear WALRUS could certainly use some TLC, judging by the look of her at the moment:

http://freehost05.websamba.com/egidioferrighi/images/navi/o-z/walrus.jpg

(or go to www.websamba.com/egidioferrighi , then
go to "ferries/liners" and then go to the "Walrus at the bottom of the page).

It's a recent shot from Genoa.

I hope she will have a good refit. I'm getting more and more enthusiast about this Jules Verne venture and I am starting to seriously wonder if it could worth spending a few €. Have anybody here already cruised on that ship ?

The prospects of French food and wine afloat again have me salivating. But I will wait for others to go first and report.

Hello CTF Mates,

What do you think of her hull art design?

Do you think that the Jules Verne image suits well or...hehehe scares?

It will be the first cruise ship ever with a men logo on the hull for sure...

I just hope this will not be fashion...otherwise.. just imagine some bad examples, such as:

Bill Clinton or Bin Laden on the hull...hehehhe

Best regards

D

I worked on the CROWN MONARCH from November 1990 when she entered service until March 1992. I later did two cruises on her as a passenger in 1993.

She was/is a wonderful little vessel, and I'm glad to see she is entering proper cruise service again instead of the casino trips. Hard to tell from the new deck plans, but it appears that some of the forward lounge areas may have been revamped.

Hi Linnerich,
My late husband and I were on her, the week of Feb. 13th-20th '93. We just loved her, we celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary on her on that cruise. If Tony had seen the way she looks now with all of the rust on her, he would not be happy. I got some nice interior photos of her, I'm glad she's getting a new lease on life.

I hope they make changes to that livery... The font & size of "Jules Verne" is totally out of place and the image is horrible.. here are so many other better things they could use to depict JV.. but perhaps others hold certain types of copyrights on things? How would Disney act if something along the lines of 20k Leagues... was used? [She looks darn sight better than the old Disney Sub ride with the plastic anemones and so on... LOL

I don't think Figment would go down too well
