The cruise director did the presentation and there were two ships officers who answered questions. The presentation was a PowerPoint type show, with pictures of the bridge, engine room, the water treatment plant, the laundry room, the leftover food disposal plant, the thrusters, the stabilizers, the propellers, and the water cannons.
The water cannons are on deck 7 and are remotely controlled. Their purpose was decribed as being an anti-terrorism defense. The officer said they test them once a month and no, they could not test them that day because they had done the testing for July. He clearly enjoyed operating the water cannon by the way he spoke and looked when he talked about it. The force of water from one of the cannons can cut a small boat in half. I imagine it could flood and sink a small boat as well. They said they are only this ship in NCL's fleet, because the ship was built to sail in Asia and they had to sail through a very dangerous straight for piracy.
They had a list of statistics that I wish I had a copy of - 2400 people eat 96,000 eggs in 8 days and 1000 pounds of chocolate. The liters of alcohol consumed were amazing. We could see where the ship makes its money.
Anyway, has anyone else seen any cruise ships with water cannons?
It really is not very British squirting water at people.
I have a picture, but do not know how to upload it.
