I'm surprised no-one's mentioned this. Although it could either be very new (unlikely) or I've just missed it (more likely).

Anyway Oriana is being refurbished in November. Highlights include the conversion of the Curzon room to a new restaurant, 'Oriana Rhodes', and the extension of the Lord's Tavern.

Here's the relevant webpage:
http://www.pocruises.com/pocruising/oriana-refit.aspx

Thoughts, comments, anyone? And apologies if this is old hat & already been done to death....

After 11 years it's a good thing they refurbish her. However once again I can see as usuaø it's very revenue driven.

They are making the pub Lord's Tavern bigger by annexing the slot machine room. (the pub is very popular) However the slot machines are moved to the Monte Carlo Room, the annex of Anderson's. Not terribly nice to hear slotmachine noises in that elegant room.

The Curzon Room will be turned in the a surcharge restaurant Oriana Rhodes. This will get P&O more revenue instead of using the room for classical concerts.

money money money.......

She'll also have weddings from the world cruise so that will leave just Aurora the only one still registered in the UK.

Does that mean that UK-registered ships cannot have weddings on board?

They are registered in Hamilton, Bermuda so still fly the Red Duster but the Captains can then perform the ceremony on board - amazing how many people think that Hamilton is the Scottish one !

Yes, Rich. I think it's silly they don't allow it in this day and age on UK registered ships. Bermuda is still British (though they want independance) so they can get around it that way. How long until Aurora follows suit though?

Does P&O stilll manage and run itself or is this revenue chasing "renovation" the result of Princess' sticky fingers?????

I wouldn't say either old hat or done to death, but you might be interested in this thread.

A real shame that Oriana will come back registered in Bermuda, but, I suppose, at least the Red Duster will still fly from the ship.

Far better that option than to see Monrovia or Nassau on the stern...

From a dining point of view, and having experienced the Gary Rhodes restaurant on Arcadia, the "Oriana Rhodes" will be a real asset.

Patsy, I wasn't aware that Bermuda wanted to break away from the UK, as I thought they proudly boasted being a "British" island. How times must have changed...

Rgds,
Andrew

Bermuda recently held a referendum in which the overwhelming majority of Bermudians opted to remain British.

Unlike Gibraltar and the Falklands where they definitely want to stay British but the government would be more than happy to give them away regardless. With P&O going over to Hamilton registry is does make me curious even more about Vicky's. Surely it won't be too long before they offer weddings at sea on Cunard too.
