Legend is a nice ship but it is starting to get a bit tired now, she is overall quite modern etc but things such as the minigolf course etc could do with a few quid spent on them.

The public areas are still quite nice but the cabins do look dated now.

Are you taking very young children? If so and they are not toilet trained be prepared for some arguements with pool staff!

Overall she is still in good condition but is starting to show her age compared to the modern liners of today, she is also that bit smaller so has a slightly more intimate feel, you will recognise your shipmates, where as on the larger ships you see different people everyday!

I travelled on LOTS in June this year, and whilst we had a great time, I would choose to cruise on a larger newer ship (personal preference).

Have a great cruise.

James

My friend and myself travelled on the Legend OS [Distant Islands] back in May of this year.

On the whole we found her to be in good order and had a great cruise. We particularly liked the impressive atrium and the excellent sea views from all public rooms, the two storey dinning room has floor to ceiling glass walls affording views from all tables.

In fact we preferred her to the larger Mariner OS, which found to be very busy all of the time and felt to a certain degree despite her magnificence, to be a little detached from the sea, on a few occasions while in the Royal Promenade we forgot we were on a cruise ship!

Back to the LOS the only negatives were the lack of open rear deck space where you could sit and have a drink while soaking up the sun, and we found the food in the main restaurant to be distinctly average [although the food in the self service Windjammer was excellent].

She is a well-balanced vessel, nice to look at with all the right bits in the right places.

If you not expecting her to be like a new pin you will have a good time.

What exactly was your row with the staff over an untoilet-trained child and the swimming pool?

If memory serves, James explained in an earlier thread that he was disappointed that his 16-month-old daughter was not allowed in the pool because she was not toilet-trained.

I have to say that I side with RCI on this.

This is what James said in an earlier post:

Overall we did have a great cruise, LOTS is a nice ship but she is starting to show her age in places, in particular the decor in the cabins looks old fashioned now, especially since the new bedding was added half way through our cruise.

Also, I wouldnt personally recommend RCI or maybe any other US cruise line if you have evry young children, they are not allowed in the pool or any part of the childrens club and teh rule is very strictly adhered to, if you do allow your child to use the pool and you are caught three times then they WILL remove you from the ship! As we travelled with our 16 month old daughter it was a big disappointment for her to not be allowed to use the pool, especially when we asked before the holiday if she could and they said yes! We have found out since returning that P&O will allow small children to use a dedicated under 10's swimming pool and childrens club toys, which had we of known would have had a bearing on our decision to go with RCI.

However having said all that we had a great time and it is just a shame we had to come home!!!!! :-)

James
