Now that my christmas break is starting and I've been looking forward to this time to create a perfect ship I can start it. I would like to create a perfect ship to be added to my portfolio, but I've been wondering, what do other people like. This ship is a dream I've had for a long time. Can I please get suggestions of what you guys would like the perfect ship to have. I will integrate that to my design and create a cruise line with a unique but possible ship. I will make drawing and a model based on what I find.

These are some of the specifications for the ship:
-around 230,000 tons
-around 1200 feet in lenght
-around 170 feet beam at hull
-everything a perfect ship should have

Please let me know what kind of restaurants, how should the decoration be, basically what you want.

Also a name for the cruise line and a name for this first ship. A good name please. Also an itinerary, caribbean should be included.

I will also make deck plans and try to show them.

It should not be too large.

It difficult to define the perfect ship due to differences in taste - but it is not only the fact that trying to please everyone is usually ending up in a foul compromise or some sort of monstrosity.

Ships are machines - and machines are built for a specific purpose. (for a ship it is the number of passengers, the itinerary etc. which defines the 'purpose') So the perfect ship for me is not a ship which is quite good in many situation but a ship which is perfect in a certain situation - and the beauty of such ships (machines) is often their simplicty.

Nevertheless, I can tell you what I 'want'. (on a cruise ship)

First, I want to have a reasonable open deck space. This means that I want to be able to 'walk around the ship' - and the more different 'routes' there are better - and I am not complaining if there is one route that stays on one deck. (keyword wrap around promenade deck)

I want to have an unobstucted view to the front - and a variety of sunny and more sheltered places. (so that on can stay outside even in adverse conditions - sun or rain)

You may add to that a pool where in which one can swim (proper size) - maybe add an indoor pool.

Concerning the public rooms I only ask for a proper observation lounge - think about reflections etc.
Generally I am happy when I can see where I am.

The rest is less important - the restaurant should not be too big - there should be an opportunity to eat on deck - a proper cinema - a proper theater (this is not the same as a cinema) - gimicks like zodicas, water sport platform etc. are appreciated.

I guess this is enough for a first suggestion.

Ahhhhh Carlos, you are taking a Genesis stroll in your stats Remember when you build a vessel that long (1200 feet) i hope you do not like berthing in the Caribbean then . How many Ports in the C;bean will be able to accomodate your vessel?..At 230, 000 tonnes she will have a pretty hefty draft i would imagine.

I'm sure there will be lots of deck space..at 1200 feet i would expect so!

Itenary: Fort Lauderdale, at sea, at sea, Bridgetown, Castries (at anchor ), Basseterre, Charlotte Amalie, at sea FortLaderdale

Please do not punnish the side profile of the vessel with 9 decks of balconies. You say you want to work with RCI....Then talk some sense into them...be an example in the industry!

You want to design ships too? I have always wanted to do that. All I could do right now though is little skeches and drawings. My dream of dreams is to have a cruise line with my ships. But anyway the perfect ship would have...

-Wrap around indoor promenade deck
-Out door wrap around sun deck compleatly unobstructed except for deck chairs.
-Art deco or eclectic insides.
-Big funnel
-Good restants of all kinds
-Not to many pools
-Teraced stern decks
-Out door decks in front of the super structure
-Very relaxing rooms
-Probably a Cunard or HAL ship.
-More classic in design
-Great entertainment like maybe Cir Du Solie.
-Very relaxing but not boring.
-Probably a carribbean or South Pacific Islands cruiser
-Very good service
-Big state rooms
-cheap prices so I could go on
-Not to many people on board at a time
-An IMAX theater
-Observation lounge

We were talking about this a few months ago in a nother thread.
I think this is the link

I would add a long forecastle and an elegant rounded cruiser stern. If these features were added to almost any newbuild, there would not be so many beastly looking new cruise ships.

Another way to find the perfect ship might be thinking about your (prefect) daily routine - waking up - taking a shower - having breakfast - going to the swimming pool etc. - get the perfect 'things' (or rooms, places) you need for that - arrange them in a 'perfect' way - and you have your perfect ship.

To have a long fo'stle you would have to have a nice funnel and placed in the correct position to accentuate the long bow..or it would look terribly out of proportion. I think the slender, long, and not so tall liners of the 30's- 60's did this job to a tee...i don't think its as easy anymore in newbuild design today

It is all about cost. Those features of course do not generate income and are expensive to build so they have been eliminated. The last really attractive rounded stern IMO was seen on RCIs Sovereign Class and the last 'longish' forecastle was seen on P&Os Aurora. I believe these design features could be included in almost any newbuild but it would be expensive.

It needs a long forecastle a huge funnel and a forward mast with a crows nest that passengers can go in.

Rex, only if Bill Gates had a cruise line would this exist and it would be sold out, I mean free out the first minute it goes on free sale. LOL

Ernst, I appreciate your suggestions. A water sports marina for this ship is a must, and it will have a marina day with a marina restaurant. It will have many decks where you can walk and see the ship. An interior pool, in the spa.

I was also thinking of a Game Works kind of place.
Also, telescopes in every exterior stateroom.

A perfect cruise ship for me would be a "time travel" to the 60's and then i could choose between the Mike and Raff, Leo Da Vinci, Canberra, Eugenio, QE2 (as original), France and many others. They were perfect, at least for me!

Italianliners

PS: Ok, if you plan to build something, build different, try some retro stylish in exterior and interior of your ship. Nowadays the ship's looks like shopping malls and hotels, yours could looks like a ship!

Remember this would be a cruise ship not a liner. Ernst I like your idea of the daily routine.
What about the company name? I like W Hotels, and W Ships would be nice. What would the W stand for.
I will definetly add a Sergios Cuban Restaurant, If you come to Miami go eat there.

Bigger cabins 300 sq. ft. or more standard ocean view with bigger closet area, add 75 ft for balcony--glass above the rail should be high enough to prevent jumpers. Bigger bathrooms. HDTV with DVD player- DVDs available from library.
NO specialty $$$ restaurants. But a free McDonalds, Burger King, Johnnie Rockets.etc.
Hmmm let me think some more.

I think in the main loby on both sides it should be a wall of class going all the way to the top with a spiral staircase going all the way up and at the top there should be a glass dome. I wouldnt mind maybe seeing a water fall in between two glass elevators and a piano in front of it.

This is more or less already available. Renting DVDs? Wouldn't a video on demand system be nicer?

A skydiving simulator, interior promenade view staterooms with balcony, fantaseas light and laser show in the main pools at night, helicopter tours directly from the ship, yacht-like feel.

An onboard strip club plus hookers that troll the public rooms and corridors at night would please 'Las Vegas' types.
