Looks like RCCL has struck pretty quickly in grabbing the best units from Pulmantur's fleet for the US consumer. The new Celebrity Jouney will now be joined in Fall 2007 by her sister the new Celebrity Quest. So now Celebrity Xpeditions will have three ships sailing more unique itineraries. Not sure how Pulmantur will be able to replace both of their nicer ships, as so far they are only getting the Zenith. Maybe RCI will send either the Legend or Splendour their way in 2008.

I believe the soon-to-be CELEBRITY QUEST will have the most name change of all the R ships.

R7-DELPHIN RENNAISANCE-BLUE MOON?-CELEBRITY QUEST.

Maybe the ISLAND STAR will move to Pullmantur and Island Cruises getting an old RCI tonnage.

Or Pullmantur could make some use out of that rusting hull in Greece, AKA Regent Sky.....why not? A few modifications, new engines....it's doable.

Seems like a good idea for Celebrity but what about our Spanish friends, they need more tonnage and new builds will take far too long.

I only hope Celebrity actually make these 2 sisters proper Celebrity ships throughout, it has always been a disappointment to me that the current R ships sailing for Princess are not Princess ships just the old R ships with a new paint job and name, if you going to buy second hand tonnage then you need to spend on them and intergrate them into the fleet properly - niether Celebrity or Princess suit the faux Edwardian decor. Celebrity did a good job with Xpeditions (I have only seen pics) but she of course is a baby and cheaper to do, almost a weekend DIY job !

It is obvious that Celebrity will now renaming their ships "Celebrity........." ? No problem but please not the Carnival thing where some are and some not, if you are going to do it do it properly.

The new routes etc sound great, will be booking soon I hope, Celebrity is my favourite line.

Maybe RCCL bought Pullmantur just for these ships. But I really find this boring, many companies with the same R-ships. I really like the Bannenberg designed Celebrities.

I am not amused. A real vampirization of the company. I see the Sky (in a Marseille shipyard for major works) and Oceanic out of Pullmantur. I don´t think they will able to match the SOLAS requirements. So new replacement is needed.

What´s left?. Not much. The Sovereign was recently refitted, and the other Sovereign class are making a good job in the short cruises. Splendour, Legend Vision has refitted, and I have recently seen the Grandeur which offered a bit of neglected image. So it would be a right candidate for Pullmantur. Nordic Empress?.

"Sky Wonder" (built in 1984) is most definitely not a SOLAS 2010 "forced retirement" candidate.

However, I'm afraid "Oceanic" is.

In the Celebrity press release they state that each ship will receive a month long refit, and that each ship will receive 32 new suites. Where will these go?

I think they are renovating one deck and turning 3 cabins into 2 to create more suites.

"R's 6 through 8 were built without all the 322 square foot suites, in their place went an entire additional deck of 216 square foot balcony cabins." see here, and deck plans:-

For every 3 balcony cabins on deck 8, the current Princess & Oceania vessels have 2 suites. So Celebrity are converting the ordinary balcony cabins into the suites [I assume].

So Celebrity obviously has two of the R's which were built with more cabins, who has the other one? Princess? And did they decide not to refurbish her as such? Is this the future Royal Princess?

You can see the deck plans for Journey. Celebrity are only converting the aft 2/3 into suites, which ties in with Noordam's figures.

Yes, Minerva II is the other vessel [R Eight]. I have no idea what Princess' plans are.
