Sunday was a landmark day in SF, we departed on our Hornblower cruise, all along the way we noticed there were thousands of people packed along the water front, and on the Golden Gate Bridge. The captain had recieved a radio saying QM2 was close and doing 30 knots, 10- 15 miuites passed and people shouted there she is!!! A small spec, I said I waited 3 years for this. She came closer and closer, hundreds of boats along side, she blew her whistle, people cheered and yelled, blew their horns and she was under the Golden Gate.

I waited 3 hours at Pier 27, making conversation as I was not the only ship nut out there, and realized from stories that I was standing newt to Craig and Jack (CLJW69), it was a pleasure meeting them. she made quick tour of the water front and slowly appeared, a mammoth taller than the pier, and amazingly docked without the assistance of tugs. After taking pictures I left, only to find that it was roadjam, car stopped, people stopped, I just took pictures along the way, I had school the next day, but I had to come back to say goodbye and got more pictures of her departure.

I've sailed with the Queen in my home city, a feeling of accomplishment, one day I will be aboard, until then so long Queen Mary 2.

Wow, what a comprehensive collection of images! The photographed ever inch of her. I felt like I was really there. Well done.

Indeed. Singularly unique are the night-time pics of her at the anchorage with the funnel and smoke exhaust stack lights off and her anchorage(?) lights on. She looks odd...

Hey there! I was on Hornblower also and am SO GLAD we talked ourselves into going. It was the first time I went past the GG Bridge on the water. But the Liberty Ship Jeremah OBrian was quite a bit farther out, no?

It was SO exciting being part of the welcoming flotilla and taking dozens of photos!

But, wow! On Monday traffic on Embarcadero was a mess all day long! I was almost half an hour late for work :-(
