Things like this are pointless to discuss because it all comes down to personal preference, but I'm going to add my vote anyway :

Queen Mary 2 - Always and forever!

They are all so different. Some are mass market and a few are premium. Two are what is considered 'classics' and completely different from the mega ships in the group.

It's the same as asking which car is best. It depends what you want it for , what you like and how much money you have. It's like asking which is best a 'Ford' or a 'Porsche'? (Well a cheap Ford is best for me, but Joe prefers his Porsche. )

A duplex suite on the QM2 is certainly more luxurious than a top grade cabin on many other ships, but it would not be every bodies cup of tea.
I'm not sure how you can compare Norwegian Pearl with the QE2.

There are lots of great ship missing from your list, too.

Agreed. Way too many factors involved.

Me? I would never choose a Costa, MSC, or P&O ship, not for any logical reason, but out of the fear of the unknown and just plain ignorance. These seem to be catered to or marketed at Europeans or other non-North American cruisers. They may be great ships, I just have no desire to go on them. My loss. Sorry if that was politically incorrect. NO desire to ever cruise NCL.

I'm pretty much done with Carnival, RCCL, and Princess...been there, done that, unless it was a great deal or an interesting itinerary.

Again, it all boils down to personal preferences.

I would choose HAL or the QM2 over any of those listed.

I think Lucas was looking for a one word answer out of the list, without the explanations or why? People will pick one they know and enjoyed,. Each vessel there may be best for one particular thing.

Mine's QM2

O.K.....NONE!

(They are all best for some passengers! )

O.K. I give in, I'm the QM2 as well. A breathtaking ship offering very good food and service even in steerage.

QM2 & QE2
And the HAL ships.

Sorry I can't narrow it down.

They are all excellent ships.I have sailed on 4 and would not hesistate to cruise on any one of them.

When choosing a ship many other factors come into play besides the ship itself...
ie.....
When can you travel?
Where do you want to go?
and
How much do you want to pay?

When we flew to Britain to cruise on QM2, we had some extra time available, so joined Norwegian Dream for a cruise to the Baltic. A great contrast in ships, but each cruise was fantastic ...in its own way.

I didnt get that same feeling, just like when someone asks 'Whats the Best Ship to Alaska' or 'What is the Best Shore Tour in Europe' or 'What Ship Has the Best Food'.

Asking an open ended question like 'Which is the Best Ship' cant be complete without the respondent defining 'why' they answered that way and adding personal experiences or observations. The 'Best' is always subjective for a number of reasons to the respondent, and knowing the 'whys' is a nice conversation plus.

Sunday kill-some-time topics like this are a bit pointless if everyone responded in a single word.

I have only sailed 3 of them, but if as you say, the time, place, price factors all tied in, I would sail all of them.. bar one, which might take a bit of 'pushing'; but not too much. Being at sea is worth anything to me.. whatever type of vessel, just some are more enjoyable than others. My next up is a ferry mini-cruise, which I am quite sure will be as fun as QM2, especially as across the N Sea to Bergen in Feb!

I've only been on the Noordam and Rotterdam, so have to say these two.

I have no desire to sail on any of the other ships or other lines. I'm very happy with HAL - they know me and I know their product. Being a single woman now, I feel safe on the ships.

Yes, I see your point, it's just the very wide variety of types, styles and cruising experiences made me think that. Maybe Lucas can enlighten us.

Comparing Oceanic to QM2 is more than comparing apples to oranges when asking for a 'best'. Both are wonderful experiences, neither could I have eliminated in favour of the other. I could never say which was best. I named QM2, as looking on the basis of which ship would I pick if offered a free cruise on any of them.

I think it is an easy question - a good 'seed' for a discussion - probably not meant to be taken too serious - finally it is an Internet forum.

So I will stay with the rules of the game and pick names from the list - I have not been on any of these vessels, but the ones I would be interested in sailing with are (so - now I also awnser another question than asked )

QM2 - she seems to be a nice, interesting ship

Legend of the Seas - I want to see the main restaurant

Star Princess - I want to see the 'shopping cart' lounge and the promenade deck going 'around the bow'

Noordam - never been with HAL and the Vista class looks interesting to me

Now THATS an interesting twist to add to this question! After choosing which one you think is the BEST (for what ever reason)...

If given a FREE cruise on any of the above ships, and you had to pick ONE, and not one you had already been on, which would you pick? Having already been on the QM2 and Rotterdam, I would have to pick one that I would think would rank up among the BEST for food, experience, entertainment, and variety.

Given this option, I would venture off way out on a limb and try Aurora.

I really hate to go with the general consensus (it's so predictable), but I would also pick QM2.

I have sailed on all these ships (or a near sister) with the exception of AURORA, LEGEND OF THE SEAS, and MSC MUSICA. I have a feeling I would greatly enjoy AURORA and MSC MUSICA, but maybe not enough to oust QM2 from the top of my list.

Not that you asked, but my last pics would be CARNIVAL CONQUEST and COSTA CONCORDIA.

I am curious why you picked this particular grouping of ships. Care to share?

Ernie

ps - given a choice to sail on any of these for free, it would be AURORA without question. I would love to try her and ORIANA.

Hello

It's time I gave my answer and my explainations

First of all I posted this topic to know which ships you like. However, it's sure that I have to mention in terms of design, and especially exterior design. I think it's the most important thing for ship(ferries or cruise ships anyway), because at first sight, it's what allow you to have a first opionion on a ship. Sure interior design is also important, and also some other criterias.
So here, I am just asking you which ship do you prefer in term of exterior design. I am sure that some of you will answer me it's the same to compare a ferrari and a ford, or NIKON reflex camera and a Kodak, however, I would say it's a bit different here, (in my opionion). I think for ships, it's different, why can't we compare the Penelope A or the Knossos Palace(sure I am talking about greek ferries, but each ferry has its own advantages, and present a Good design for me), so now why can't we compare the Qe 2 and Oceanic in term of exterior design, and Qm 2 and freedom of the seas as well.

So to give an answer to my own question, my favourites are the QE 2 and the Jewel of the seas, sure they are totally different and the prices of the cruises are different and it is a different kind of cruise too, but I intend to go on both of them this year.

Cheers
Lucas
