I don't know if this has been linked before, but at the following site you can find photos from some recent sea trials.

Wow...RCI/Aker do not hang about, do they!

I wonder how different these ships feel to the Voyager class? I know that Eroller has been on both. Anyone else?

I found FREEDOM and the Voyager Class have a very similar feel. In fact some may be hard pressed to notice the differences unless they really know the ships. This being said, I enjoyed FREEDOM more. I liked the additional amenities, deck space, and small improvements. The new bedding and flat panel TV's were also winners!

I have two Voyager Class cruises coming up. VOYAGER OF THE SEAS in early May out of Barcelona. This should be interesting as it's only four days and not marketed in the US at all. The ship should almost be 100% European. It will be interesting to compare their behavior on a cruise to my US counterparts. I'm also interested to discover any differences in RCI's European operation compared to the US.

Then a month later in early June I sail for 9-days on EXPLORER OF THE SEAS out of the NY area to Bermuda and the Caribbean.

I have sailed on VOYAGER OF THE SEAS three times but never on EXPLORER. I'm looking forward to comparing the small differences between the two sisters.

Generally I like to try new designs, but frankly I'm running out of new ships to try so the next best thing is the Voyager Class. I never get bored of these ships.

I have cruised RCI from Barcelona and the overall expereince was quite different from cruising RCI from a UK port (return) and RCI in the Caribbean. I found the dining room wait staff to act more reserved!

The passengers mix in the Med featured a high proportion of Italians and Spanish, but RCI are very good at adapting their brand.

Generally I like to try new designs, but frankly I'm running out of new ships to try so the next best thing is the Voyager Class. I never get bored of these ships.

You had better come to Blighty and try some old designs such as Aurora, Oriana and some Olsen vessels.

Personally I have never been a fan of the Voyager class, even if I like the last two better than the first three. As for FR -and LB for that matter- they seem to have more personality and thanks to the extra length, feel more open.

I've not calculated the respective passenger/space ratio's, between the 'Voyager' and 'Freedom' but isn't the extra space just filled with extra passengers?

That's avery valid point, recab. All the stats in the world cannot tell you what an actual cruise experience feels like.

Notice in the picture of the Royal Prom that one set of the fire doors (above the decorative bridge) are closed, probably for testing. (It's not the back wall.) These and other sets of automatic doors divide up the 'Royal Prom' when closed.

This type of concertinaed doors are unique to these ships. They were specially designed and certificated for what is a very large volume of space and a potential fire hazard, without such doors.

Originally it was quite a design feat to create doors which were almost invisible when open but could extend quickly when required, even in rough sea conditions.

Somewhere the Royal Prom also has a hidden garage where a 'cherry picking' vehicle is stored. This is used to reach the ceiling of the Royal Prom and put up decorations or change bulbs etc. (The Royal prom has no natural light or sea views). This is normally only done in the middle of the night so passengers NEVER see it, apart from insomniacs.

Yes there you see indeed huge firewall-s (door) and its now opened for pianting job. When it's finnished it looks like a part of the wall and normally people don't notice them.

Sounds more reasonable than the 18th, with all the work still to be done onboard.

I believe the pic 'on high' was taken from somewhere on LOS funnel.. below, the viking crown lounge roof is seen and her IMO number.
Aker, really waste no time. Very good efficiency.

Now looking at the ship's website i see a pic showing her on her float out.. and i look to the bow thrusters.. and i see the normal 4 thrusters as is on all the Voyager/Eagle and Freedom class.. but i also see two other small holes... what are these? Are they small secondary thruster holes?

It could be that it's just a 'pipe' from one side of the ship to the other. The Europa built in 1981 had/has such a configuration - it improves the efficiency of the thursters. (or at least someone believed that it helps)
