Building has started, is it just me (and if it is please say so) or is Joe Farcus now in charge of naming (as well as interior destruction, sorry mean design) ships. Thank goodness he probably doesn't know about Blackpool !

While we're at it would be interested to know your least favorite J Farcus ship interior.

Mine is a split..

Costa Concordia - gives you a headache

Festivale - he took a beautiful if slightly less than luxurious interior and not only ruined it he blasfeemed it with plastic bulkheads, melamine and horrid furniture and additions. A shipping sin.

I have to agree with you there, Russ. I worked in Carnival Operations during those years, and besides the appearance of the room, there was a chemical-plastic smell that was ever-present in the Blue Lagoon. Of course when the room was rebuilt as a Country Western saloon, I don't think it was much better!

Ok, I'm almost afraid to admit this but I LOVED the FESTIVALE, CARNIVAL, MARDI GRAS, and HOLIDAY. When I was a kid I just thought Carnival was the greatest. I sailed on FESTIVALE when I was about 11 or 12 during her first year. I LOVED the decor, especially the disco. You have to remember this was the 70's and I was just a child. Several years later we sailed on one of the inaugural cruises of the HOLIDAY. In fact I think it was my high school graduation gift in 1985. Again I LOVED the ship. It was too cool and there was nothing else like the HOLIDAY at the time. It was the first ship to have the single double wide-promenade down the starboard side and it seemed like there were so many lounges. I do remember the "Blue Lagoon" and I thought the concept was cool, but the execution was poor and and it ended up looking cheap. It did have that plastic smell. I still loved it though. Of course now my tastes have changed but all these ships still have a special place in my heart and I could never put them down.

Probably anything he ever designed.
There is one room imparticular, but I don't know what ship its on. It is a dark atrium light only by purple neon lights. Thats how I remember it anyway. Does anyone have any idea of what ship that is?

Oh My! I distinctly remeber sailing on the Holiday and remembering an odd odor in the Blue Lagoon lounge! This was back in 1992 I was 11. The reason why I remember it because it almost had the odor of stagnant water. And I thought it was befiting since the decor was "under the sea" inspired.

Without a doubt the worst looking room on any Carnival ship has to be the dining room on the Miracle. All those pink grapes.

Ah yes, we have heard about the hemeroid dining room on the Miracle, actually one of the worst rooms I remember on any ship wasn't a Farcus design but the Windows to the World observation lounge on the Star Princess 1 - it was BLAND beyond and the design had this walkway around the perimieter of the room thus ensuring no one could see out at all. Princess eventually raised the floor about 5 foot and redid the room completely making into a reasonable space.

The disco on Sky Princess with adjoining corridor also deserves an honourable mention as one of the worst rooms, actually at night it was fine but in daylight or with lights on it was horrid.

I was expressing my opinion as the worst looking room designed by Joe Farcus. If your opinion is different then so be it.

I like Carnival Miracle's interior design........ but i guess its because I'm a kid. I despise fantasy's interior tho its very cheap looking.

this Farcus slapping is another repeat of so many times before, get to play in your own backyard!

we all know now that you don't like it, but if you post an article with Costa Luminosa as topic and you start fuming over his design all over again I think of resigning at all

this adds to nothing

I really believe you're some bunch of frustrated souls who are NOT capable of reacting to something serious but instead again and again coming up with your same topic... whining and whining like a LITTLE child I don't like it

Costa Luminosa is a strange name. It's definitively original, but I don't like it. It's somehow evoking a lamp brand to me.

Well i am affraid buddhaJoe is right. I have not seen anything in this thread concerning the Costa Luminosa...yet the thread has that name. I was wondering what this ship i but i came in and found discussions about all other ships..so much for the Luminosa.
In the same breath, i don' t think there is anything wrong with voicing opinions on the designs of Farcus whether it be good or bad but in the appropriate thread.. this thread should be renamed if we are going to continue down this line.

i can easly understand eroller's point:
i remember my self either, reading th old Carnival
brochures and i remember my self dreaming those ships... it was my goal - to embark one of those ships.

Then again Mike sa did ask what was everybodys least favorite Farcus interior was. But you are right that the rest of the topic has not really been talked about.

I don't like the name. Its sounds cheesy and fake to me. Like Desirod pointed out, it reminds me of Olive Garden. But then again Costa on a whole reminds me of Olive Garden.

may-be someone here can shine a light !

Luminosa might reflect the Costa de la Luz in Spain
so may-be it's meaning is something like light and airy however i have trouble to find something of a pattern in the namings of the Costa ships in general

Costa Luminosa = Costa Luminous or Costa Bright (?).
Costa's ships names never refer to any actual coast (or if it does, it's not the primary intention).
It's just the name of the line (which indeed means coast in Italian) followed by a "nice" Italian word ending with "a".

Basically, the entire Fantasy class is unsightly, although, the Paradise is semi-tolerable. The worst offender is probably the Ecstasy. Most of his Costa work is hideous as well.

Yes, Costa means coast in Italian, but it was my understanding it was the name of the Italian family which originally began the company. I always liked the names during the time family members' names were used: Eugenio Costa, Carla Costa, Enrico Costa, etc.

What do you think about

COSTA BELLA?
COSTA GRANDIOSO? .. (GRANDIOSA?)
COSTA SUPERBA? ...

Something like this... Nice sounds for my ears, but I do not know, if they are correct in these versions

What about Costa Brava, Costa Blanca or Costa Smeralda? They have already got the best name through - Costa Fortuna - which is inadvertently hilarious.
