It is the first time I see her with the new funnel livery - the first Hurtigruten ship where I like it.

Is she doing a 'traditional' Bergen-Kirkenes rountrip? (going to the Geiranger is actually not the traditional way - you know what I mean)

Thanks for the picture.

Nancy and I sailed on her in 1960! I assume that is the same ship. Looks to be of the proper age. Did they ever put heads in all the cabins?

Lovely photos Galaxy. Interesting that BW was alongside and BP at anchor? Love the photo of the 2 of them. Was this because BP has fewer pax to tender?

All that snow still! Brrr But makes for a lovely setting for the ships and views for the passengers.
Will you be aboard QM2 then Annnthony?

Pam

Thank you PamM

I belive its like you say....ships whit most pax go along side and the ship whit fewer use tender...OR first ship to port go along side...BW arrive 08 and BP 09 that day....but i have seen that the bigest ship always go along side...so it is something whit how many pax on eatch ship

But from 2008 Olden have a new and bigger quay ready...she will cost around 30 mill NOK and 2 gigant ships are going to go along side at the same time...or 3 medium ships They are going to start build the quay this winter...

Hi Pam,

Yes, we will be aboard QM 2, 22 day round trip NYC.

We did a 14 dayer on Crystal Serenity last year, all the way to Spitsbergen. We just couldn't resist doing Norway again, especially from NYC without flying!

I've cruised to both.

Norway is still very unspoilt. Ports like 'Skagway' in Alaska look loverly, yet the many traditional style buildings are all tourist shops selling: "My Friends went to Alaska and all they brought me back was this crummy T-Shirt".

These villages which have been turned into shopping malls are indeed typical for Alaska BUT these 'hot spots' in Alaska are usually also very isolated - many ports of call on a typcial cruise to Alaska can not even be reached via streets or trains - Alaska is VERY large and there IS still a LOT of wilderness in Alaska.

Norway is not really densely populated either - but the settlement structure is older and more streaky.

Another major difference between Alaska and Norway is that the parts of Alaska visited by cruise ships are more southern than Norway.

Also, there is no glacier in the mainland of Norway that reaches the sea (if I remember right - there are of course many in Svalbard) - whereas there are many calving glaciers in Alaska.
