Looking at different things in the Aker site I found this really interesting PDF document with a picture of a model of a cruise concept that clearly shows how Genesis lifeboats might be arranged. The link below directs you to the page, download the file named "Tavoitteet korkealla (in Finnish)" which is towards the bottom and there it is on page three. That picture also gives you an idea of what might be the second Royal Prom. at aft.

Interesting, and sorry for creating another Genesis post.

Which picture are you talking about? The one with the model or the on with a ship being built? And are you sure thats her?

I don't think that model is the GENESIS project, but rather another ferry or cruise ship, which may or may not have been ordered. The internal balcony design has been offered for a long time, but I don't think any cruise lines have ordered such a vessel yet. This concept would give an open air access to otherwise 'inside' staterooms, with a view towards a sheltered pool / lido area, much like a pool-view or garden-view room at a hotel resort.

Of course it is not a model of GENESIS. But that is not not what what Carlos wanted to show. He pointed us to a concept study showing clearly the same lifeboat arrangement than on Genesis:
The boats are overhanging the side of the ship to a good proportion. The hinge system is located in the halfround structures standing out of the hull and the promenade deck is not underneath the boats, but behind the upper half! Which in case of the Genesis will also be most probably the lowest deck of the indoor promenade - thus creating enough space to muster the huge number of pax in case of an emergency.

Greetings,
YoShip.

Interesting having lifeboats hanging over the side and 3-4 decks above the waterline. This class of ship must be designed to only to cruise is calm waters.

In other Genesis-related news, it has been stated by ABB that she will be fitted with 3 Azipods of 20.5 MW each. Total installed power will be 100 MW.

She's going to be big, but she won't be a slouch.

Another similar concept has surfaced, this one a concept from Wartsila and Aker Yards for a LNG fueled cruise ship. Lots of pretty pictures to look at:

and click on In Detail - Wartsila technical journal(web version) under Inside Wartsila Marine Industry. Just download the PDF, it's easier.

Nice find, Magic Pipe. That is one radical looking ship. I would be quite surprised if Genesis did not have the split aft superstructure that Aker has shown in a number of their concept designs.

The whole natural gas powered ship is also fascinating. I wonder if anyone would seriously give this a try. Maybe if diesel prices continue to skyrocket it could happen.

I highly agree Fairsky, especially with the added width that the Genesis has. At 47M wide, an extra 9 meters (around 30 feet) more than Freedom, I cannot fathom what else they would use that width for. Otherwise the ship should have a ridiculous amount of interior or "promenade" cabins. I think this Genesis will end up beig quite the revolutionary ship compared to everything else...

I think Genesis will have the split aft superstructure, but will be enclosed by glass, sort of like a Royal Promenade cut, with a glass end, only one deck of cabins will have aft view and this might be the presidential suite, everything below is glass which again, is hinted by the rendering of Genesis. Aker has a very good chance to do this with Genesis, and I hope it is that way.
