Agreed. But the Oceana is so much better looking to my eyes.

I don't understand why they designed the Grand Class like they did.

Thanks Pam!

On a separate issue, OPERA is not now taking bunkers in Gibraltar, but is refuelling across the Straits in Ceuta, where she is due either later this evening or tomorrow morning. How very frustrating! Your excellent shots and video of her departure from Tilbury will be among the very few exclusive images of the ship with the in-between look!

I think the 'Mk II Grand' class (Diamond, Sapphire, Emerald, Crown?), the ones without the handle, look better.

But apparently all Grands are very popular, especially in the Caribbean - all those balconies, I suppose.

The smaller Sun Class ships are also very popular w/Princess passengers plus they are a heck of a lot better looking than the monster Grand Class ships.

Last year there was a Sun Class ship anchored off Puerto Vallarta, Mexico while we were there and even my non-ship lov'in friends commented that she was a good looking ship compared to the other boxy boats in port.

The 'Mk II Grand' series are a definite improvement, but they still have that awkwardly styled bridge and the flat bow - UGH.

Oceana should be returned to Princess, I love sailing these ships (3 out of the 4 of them so far) but if only they had left the stern on them....? Someone cut it off ! Great ships to cruise,

Favourite spots
Plaza Patiserrie
Wine bar (the best)
Wheelhouse bar
Aft pool and bar
Riviera bar (above main pool)
Sterling Steakhouse when it used to be outside aft of Horizons overlooking the pool.
Not having to walk through the casino as it is upstairs out of the way.
Pizzeria
Library

Ify spots.
Crowds trooping through the wheelhouse after the show.
Awful "artwork" on easals everywhere.
Already mentioned the rear view
Smallish balconies with steel bulkheads below railing
Funny layout of cabins aft of casino
Crappy plastic deck loungers

Suggestions for Sun Class
Please put a Sabatinis on board
And a Sterling Steakhouse outside again
Get rid of all that poofy artwork . put it in one place only.
Loose the sound amplification for the solo player in the wine bar - does he/she have to loud enough to hear them in the atrium !
Send one to Durban for 6 months of the year - they could do Aussie for the other 6 !

They then would be just about perfect.

I have cruised the Grand Class 4 times, no where near as nice but does have the mod cons, will never win any prizes for looks and the worst is balconies that are never private. However to be in Skywalkers (disco) in bad weather is awesome ! The thing shakes and rattles as if it is going to fall off, combined with hanging on for dear life it is great fun. I believe it was moved on later models because of this and some cracks that had appeared on the underside of the older design.

Coral/Island
If they were only slightly softer to look at especially around the bow, best of both worlds - Crooners bar a hit but crappy casino decor. The Cajun restaurant needs to be turned into a Sterling Steakhouse. Add an Adagio bar as on Crown but god knows where !.

Oh yes and PLEASE scrap the Explorers theme in the 3rd show lounges just decorate them normally, especially the poor staff having to wear Jungle Jims uniforms complete with pith helmets.

I loathe the Sun Class ships. Not enough public rooms so that if you are on second sitting you never have a hope of getting into the wheelhouse bar. Confusing cabin numbering, claustrophobic restaurants and a champagne bar outside the noisy disco. Rubbish.

And what, exactly, is poofy artwork?

Thank you!

Yeah...Sorry about that. The first few pictures were shot while she was still pretty far away, and the camera I was using does not focus well on objects far away.
