Patricia Routledge to be Godmother of the Queen Victoria

It is the perfect metaphor since the ship is a nautical Hyacinth Bucket.
All pretensions, lower class lineage, in your face classism, and caters to snobbery.

I know Ms. Routledge has much acting talent beyond "Keeping Up Appearances," but I do hope she reprises the persona of Hyacinth for this occasion. It is sooooo fitting!

I recall the episode. He cabin was a Deck 1 grille class with real wood panelling. They were sailing in Mauretania slums and she was indignant when 86'd from the Princess Grille and told to eat in the Mauretania Restaurant. In reality their cabin would be too small to fit camera equipment.

Now, I'm confused. What's the difference between Godmother and Madrina? Maureen Ryan was named Madrina of the QV at the float out and was Guest of Honour at that occasion.

Wonderfully choice love here talent (beyond Hyacinth)
The QE2 episode was fun. But don't forget that Hyacinth installed an safety burglar alarm that sounded as the horn of QE2.

Great Lady fore a good ship.

Greetings Ben.

ROFLMAO!!!

Is it true that you are often asked by fellow Cunard passengers wishing to acertain your social standing the restaurant you eat in?

Very!

I recall being on board the QM2 on a Trans to New York. For most of the day they kept announcing over the PA that Grill passengers should visit the immigration officers on board with their passports 'at leisure'.

I was sitting in the Cinema at about 4.00pm when the announcement came "Britannia Dining Passengers mush go to immigration with their passports, now!".

I missed the end of the movie.

I hope so too. I thought that Maureen Ryan was an excellent choice. Certainly a better choice than Ms. Routledge. Put simply, Maureen deserves the honour.

I believe that Madrina and Godmother are one in the same, however, the Free Dictionary gives this definition.

Ma`dri´na
n. 1. An animal (usually an old mare), wearing a bell and acting as the leader of a troop of pack mules.

Malcolm I think Desirod is pulling our leg! However I think Hyacinth would make a wonderful Godmother.

It appears to be an Italian tradition to have a Madrina - who is pointedly not referred to as the "godmother" - for the float-out ceremony.

A different person is invited to be the Godmother at the official naming ceremony when the ship arrives at its home port.

Sure there are lots of us here! But unless you're familiar with "Brit-coms" popularly shown on Public Television, or BBC America, you could be lost in reference to Patricia Routledge.

And Maureen Ryan could be considered the "First Lady" of Cunard. She has worked aboard their vessels for over 40 years as ship's hostess, and is charming and gracious, very knowledgeable and quite an asset to Cunard. I've met her on several crossings both QE2 and QM2.

Miss Routledge has been a frequent pax on QE2 and probably on QM2 as well. I don't know if she traveled on [in] other Cunarders. Wonderful choice I think....

This is a somewhat ungracious taking of an excellent actress's name in vane.

Patricia Routledge is so much more than her role as 'Hyacinth Bucket' - if you want to take the time to check out her career (including a TONY) then check out the link below before you mock.

http://www.musical-theatre.net/html/unsungheroines/patriciaroutledge.html

Perhaps we should start a thread about Paris Hilton being the new godmother of RMS Dubai Hilton (opening in 2009)

Agree with you Ken. Let's turn things around. Is the Queen Victoria a suitable ship fore this Grand Dame to be Godmother of.

Greetings Ben.
