Many of the railings and dividers in the rendering appear to be almost invisible which gives the view a much more open appearance. Even if the railings are glass in the end, they will certainly be more noticable and change the view. I also note a seeming lack of supporting architecture betwen decks. Can they really build the ship with one deck "floating" above another?

I also see all the railings, which are of course glass with wood railings. Nothing unusual there. There are some tall dividers forward but these are the only objects I see that might not look the same in the end product.
What I find missing is an outdoor staircase from the deck the pool is located on to the deck above. Other than that, it seems quite detailed and well thought out.
I see no reason this concept could not become a reality, especially on a luxury vessel such as Four Seasons.
I do think the pool area looks very nice indeed. It obviously won't turn out the same as the rendering, things never do, but anything near enough will be lovely. Shame I could never afford an apartment abord.

Pam, luxurious outdoor seating areas are becoming quite popular both at hotels and onboard cruise ships. Oceania has the "pool deck lounge" for instance and even Princess has "the Sanctuary" on it's newest ships. I don't consider it far fetched at all, and pretty much everything can be made to be water proof and held in place if there are high winds.
I agree that nothing is ever exactly as the renderings depict, but I see no reason why Four Seasons could not duplicate what we see here in real life. I don't see anything so advanced that it can't be constructed on a ship. What I do see is a beautiful pool area that looks more like something you would find at a South Beach luxury hotel than a cruise ship.

i've seen such furniture made for outdoors before, its surprising what they make that is weatherproof. The table lamps might not make the final cut and the artwork will probably be something more weather proof than is shown there.
It's a pretty impressive pool deck for sure....

There are a few residential furniture lines that offer this style of 'all weather' teak as well as good simulated wicker which is quite popular for contemporary outdoor settings like this. The outdoor table lamps have been available for several years and are a very nice touch for intimate seating areas.
I think more newbuilds (including the mass market lines) will go in this design direction both for interiors as well as poolside. The younger crowd (under 40) tends to prefer a clean modern look.

The foliage will probably be fake. It's amazing how real fake plants can look these days.
I do agree the umbrellas on the upper deck are unrealistic, at least while at sea. Too windy on most days.

I'm not sure how they can actually do that, it would be incredibly expensive to use 'seamless' glass or even a plexiglass surface. They do get cracks and you have to be able to replace it in pieces. I am looking forward to the real deal...

Yes - there are a lot of "details" which will make a difference. (e.g. the floor)
It looks a bit crowded to me.
Once more my complaint about the blocked forward facing deck space. I hope there are some other decks with an unobstructed view.

Crowded? I thought it looked like one of the most spacious pool areas (and the largest pool) of just about any ship I know of.

Remember, this ship will carry very few people. I think it's about the size of The World and there will only be 112 residences. No doubt it will be one of the most spacious ships in the world.
Can you tell I like pools???
quote:Originally posted by eroller:Thanks Joe. I don't think this will be a pretty ship on the exterior (just like I don't think THE WORLD is pretty), but if the pool area turns out anything like the rendering I will be impressed. Can you tell I like pools??? Ernie
Absolutely. I do too and I would love to see a ship that looks like the artist's rendering.
The more I revisit the issue though, I wonder what the real status of this project is. Their web site used to have detailed deck plans for the ship (...see Google cache) and it was originally scheduled for delivery in Fall of 2007. Now there is no mention on the Aker web site. Anyone know the status?
Now we just need that on a regular cruise ship!

She certainly will be a very spacious vessel. The pool area is of course more than large enough for the small number of passengers and if the remove the one or the other lounge chair it should be fine.
