Norwegian Gem is due to float out on Sunday August 12th to go to the outfitting pier.

quote:
Papenburg, 08 August 2007 - Upon completion of ample tests and engine trials the 93,500 gt cruise ship “Norwegian Gem” will leave the covered building dock of MEYER WERFT on Sunday, 12 August. Undocking of the ship, which is built for the American cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), will start around 7.45 a.m. If weather conditions are favourable, the manoeuvre will be finished within a couple of hours.

Changes of the undocking procedure may occur due to weather conditions!

With the ship being berthed at the outfitting pier, outstanding work will be completed on board. The Ems passage of the newbuilding to the sea trials port in Eemshaven/Netherlands is planned for mid of September 2007. A detailed schedule will be published within short. The new luxury liner has a length overall of 294.13 m, is 32.2 m wide and reaches a speed of more than 24 knots. More than 2,400 passengers can be accommodated in 1,197 cabins and are taken care of by a crew of about 1,100.

It really is odd having upcoming cruises on ships not in service (I've got three). Going by past decor, time to start getting in the stock of aspirin.

Her hull art looks interesting. The same basic wavy motion but filled with 'gems' as you would expect. A picture is available on the meyer werft website... I would have put it on here but I am not sure how to post a picture, yes after this long time i have been on this site.

Yes Patsy, you might want to stock up...

Looks very nice and clean. Pearl's exterior looked very dirty the times I saw her.

It is amazing how fast these ships are being built. Next is Norwegian Jade, or is that the forward end of Solstice a couple meters in front of Gem in the other dock??

Norwegian Jade is actually the current Pride of Hawaii. Norwegian Gem is the last of the Star/Jewel-Class ships for NCL. The next ship will be the first of Project F3 (third generation of freestyle vessels) which is set to be delivered Q4 of 2009!

That is correct. You can see that parts of Celebrity Solstice are already reaching from keel to top deck.

I wonder how extensive the 'Jade' refit will be?

I know she will get a Casino, but surely they will not chance all of the internal Hawian decor? I suppose they will have to change the hull art?

As soon as the Norwegian Gem is floated out, they start to move the engineroom module of Solstice.

That is only stated in the German version of the floating out news.

Am Vormittag wird das bereits vorgefertigte Maschinenraummodul für ein weiteres Kreuzfahrtschiff, die „Celebrity Solstice“, in das Baudock verholt.

Next Tuesday I am going to Papenburg to photograph the Gem. Photos will be published on the net as soon as possible after my return.

Hey thanks for the replies guys. I seriously did not remember that POH was being turned into NJ. I totally forgot and had the thinking that she was a newbuild.

I can't wait for the Solstice now.. just she is a different design.

Sorry for taking GEM's topic for this, but here is another more visible picture of one block of Solstice, it looks like the lower block of the stern.

Anything or any pics from the float out of the Gem?
Strange not to see anything as yet, if she has been floated out of the shed.

Interesting to see how fast NCL ships were coming out of Meyer-Werft so rapidly, now we have to wait for the newbuilds from Aker.

I don't know if the section up front in the web-cam belong to Solstice, most probably it does, but the section seen to the left hand side of the cam belongs to Solstice for sure, I compared what it available of the plans and the atrium and staircases outline looks exactly like that.

The already high section at the end of the dock belongs to Solstice, as does the section at this side of the dock (this is the section floated in as discussed above).
On the left side in preperation stages are most sections for Solstice, except for the one closest to the webcam which has the white davits placed on. This section belongs to the latest Indonesian passenger ferry "Gunung Dempo".

Here's a good view of NORWEGIAN GEM's bow artwork: Norwegian Gem

I guess in spite of all the controversy over NCL's flashy bow-art on their vessels, at least from a distance one can identify which ship is which, by seeing these icons before reading the name!

Correcto, that is why I like the art as another reason. You could imagine all 5 or 6 how many ever Star Class ships without art, you couldn't distinguish them from distance.
