I'm happy to see this not because I am excited about INDEPENDENCE, but what comes next .... GENESIS!

There are plenty of sections of Genesis already constructed in the yard and ready to be lifted into the building dock once Independence is out of the way.

The "keel-laying" will take place in December.

That is what QM2's modified cruiser stern should have looked like!

Once more, Greybeard beats me to it. But there are more pictures from the floatout of Independence of the Seas here , plus a couple of shots of the first modules of Project Genesis, here ,

Thanks for the pics. Most interesting is the last of GENESIS. Many of us have been wondering about the life boat arrangement. The GENESIS renderings make it look like the boats would be extended from the side of the ship, and there would be no traditional promenade deck. That last picture seems to disprove this theory. The picture looks like a typical lifeboat well with a promenade deck below. Nothing unusual.

Nice shots of float out ceremony, thanks!
I have to correct some things about Genesis, the keel-laying will not happens in december, its more like january - february period, maybe later. It all depens of modyfication of our drydock area, is supouse to take 5 moths of time, so you can calculate the possible keel-laying moment.
About genesis fotos, there is really nothing mutch to see yet, i'v been said that allready... The last picture dosent really belong to genesis, its a part of "Color superspeed" vessel wicth will be buitlt in Rauma. Genesis isn't that small! Color is some 30m wide, G will be allmoust twice is that.
So be patient G will come ... in time!

Oh, come on. Lack of information has never stopped us from jumping to conclusions in the past. It's so much easier to do before the ship has been built

Thanks so much for the clarification. I'm happy to learn that last photo is not GENESIS. It was a bit disappointing for me since I expected the lifeboat arrangement to be something unusual. When I saw the photo, I thought it looked too thin for GENESIS, but then I figured it was probably only half the module. There is a big pole in the way that keeps you from seeing the other half.

In any case, thanks for the update. Of course any information that you are at liberty to pass on, please do! Many of us anxiously await any details of GENESIS. I know I do, certainly much more so than QUEEN VICTORIA which seems to be the only topic of conversation around here lately. Yawn.

Ernie, You of all people must know that any info about project GN is so far very hush-hush.
As AB says, we have to be patient for a while.
(But you will not be disappointed!)

Hi Roland,
Yes I realize that GENESIS is still very much under wraps. None the less, you never know when a tidbit here and there might be revealed!

I'm also anxious for more details on CELEBRITY SOLSTICE. I'm booked on the maiden voyage. Looks like another fantastic ship even if there are only two passenger stair- towers (there really should be three).

Hope all is well.

Hi Ernie,

here's a few tidbits to sate you.

Genesis: the Royal Promenade will extend all the way to the aft of the vessel and have a huge panaoramic wall of glass overlooking the stern of the ship and opening onto an aft deck.

Solstice: will have five main restaurants including a humongous 2-story main dining room, a large wine bar and a "piazza" style atrium lobby that will anchor the ship's public areas.

Tim

Great! The Royal Proms have always lacked natural light making them very 'inward facing' in feel, with zero connection to the sea. In contrast the 'Radiance' class feel very 'outward facing' in comparison.

Nice pictures, Thanks SRead, it is nice to finally see some pictures of Genesis' first pieces, the last pic. did look like it would belong to one of the ferries being built at Aker, if not it would be broken by the Royal Prom. so maybe we will still get some different lifeboat arrangement to the usual one. The rendering we have seen is just the prototype, so I'm sure some things will change, hopefully not much.

This is what I hoped for and what I expected since I first saw the rendering, my question is now, how is the funnel casings going to get through, maybe by the sides, or the Royal Prom. will be broken. Here's a sketch of how I think Genesis will look looking aft and port side.

I really can't wait til 2009. Count me in for her maiden anywere she will be.

Thanks Tim. I appreciate it. I had read about the Royal Promenade somewhere, but it was never confirmed. That should really give it an interesting dynamic.

SOLSTICE sounds cool too. I'm really excited about that one as I happen to love the way Celebrity designs and decorates their ships. Very much my personal style. I'll be eating in that massive main dining room since I did not opt for Aqua Class. I'm not concerned. I figured the ship would have a large atrium opening as that is one of the few public areas shown on the deck plan. I am disappointed there are only two stair towers. There are some artist renderings in the latest Celebrity Caribbean brochure. Looks good so far!

Wow Carlos, did you make that sketch? It looks great. You are very talented. I think you did an amazing job and that is probably pretty much how GENESIS will look.

Regarding the funnel uptakes, I'm fairly certain they will be divided just as they are on the current Voyager/Freedom Class. On either side of the dining room entrance and also the entrance to Windjammer are the uptakes. They don't join until they reach the funnel at the top of the ship.

Hello Eroller,

Thanks, I think the casings will have to go through at the sides of the main restaurant, the problem will be with the Royal Prom. since it's such a large space. If my observations are correct (based on the rendering and the Voyager-class) Genesis' dining room will span decks 2,3 and 4, the Royal prom, might be 8 decks high from decks 4-11, truly spectacular.

They will have to be very careful about not making the Royal Promenade too tall. The width has to be proportionate or it will just look like a narrow tunnel and will not be appealing. I wonder if GENESIS will have the Promenade View cabins like the Voyager Class? I'm sure they will, but maybe those cabins will only be on the higher decks giving the lower area of the Promenade much more width. That would really make for a spectacular space!

If the space is wider they can throw in some Royal Promenade view staterooms with balconies.

...and if they make it even wider they could have a 'little' basin on the Royal Promenade with one of their first ships floating in there.

Will we begin to have promanade suites, with jacuzzis??

The promanade with a view sounds great, but at 8 decks high, thats way to tall.

I am donwering if RCL is going to take the great opportunity and unclude a panoramic glass end for the main dinning room.

The "original" promenade can be found on board the ferry Silja Serenade (from 1990) and has both a big glass wall aft and partly glass roof. The promenade is actually both longer and higher than the Royal Promenade on Voyager of the Seas, 140m (about 470 feet) long and 5 decks tall. I bet genesis will beat this easily!

The promenade on the Voyager ships (and also the Freedom ships, I guess) is very nice, but lacks the natural light. Great if they can add this on Genesis!

I have tried to attached two pictures of the promenade on Silja Serenade, hopefully they are visible (first try...).

Glass roof on Silja Serenade.

Aft part of the promenade where the glass wall can be seen in the back.
