AIDA Cruises has announced that AIDAaura has suffered a technical malfunction while underway from a scheduled dry-docking in Genoa to Palma de Mallorca where she was to pick up passengers for a Christmas / New Years trans-Atlantic crossing. The cruise has been cancelled at the very last minute (many passengers were already underway to Palma), passengers will be given a full refund (which includes individually booked flights, transfers etc.) plus 50% off a future AIDA booking.
At this time it is not known what the exact "technical issue" is, but it appears to be a problem with one of the vessel's shafts.
Best,

I believe it when I see it.
Apparently, both propeller shafts are damaged and might have to be replaced. This sounds like something went terribly wrong during the previous scheduled drydocking.

If the ship repair yard is to blame for the problems I can not see the parent company Carnival will be very happy or provide other work for this ship yard.

According to Lloyds, she had "a 6m water ingress in the engine-room at Genoa 12 Feb 2007. Stabilized same day. Full investigation under way. Under repair 20 Mar. Still repairing 19 Oct."
Seasons greetings to you!
A belated Merry Christmas to you!
"AIDAaura" left Genoa at 4.30 p.m. today and is now enroute to Palma to pick up passengers for a 14-night Atlantic crossing to Oranjestad.
