Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone has latest pics or news on the ID please.

I am up to date with the new sailings dates etc but looking specially for pics for my album.

I was lucky enough to be invited on the Liberty Pre-Inaugural last year and apparently I am on the invite list for ID and trying to compile an album/scrapbook on her.

Many thanks
Liz

Independence is presently laid up in San Francisco - see here.

There is no ship bearing the name Liberty.

Ernst, I think Liz means Independence Of The Seas!

Liz, if you go to here and click through to Media Centre, you'll find quite a nice collection of RCI ship pictures.

Is 'ID' somehow a 2-letter abbreviation for Independence of the Seas?

Definitely one of my pet peeves, not calling a ship by its full name or a nickname. I've always hated the nickname Lizzy, seems disrespecteful to the historic liner Queen Elizabeth 2, although the shortened QE2, QM2, and QV always seem quite acceptable. Other 'names' I never cared for are Indy (which one?), SSUS, Connie (for Constitution or Constellation), Freedom (which one are you talking about?). I love saying the full names of ships like Independemce of the Seas, United States, or Queen Mary 2. It just seems they were given their names for a reason, and although nicknames may be 'affectionate' in nature, it just seems wrong and belittling of their majesty and grandeur.

Also mis-pronunciation of a ships name, i.e. Essasy instead of Ec-sta-sy and RCCL's Nordic Express before she became the Empress of the Seas. Any other ships get their names mispronounced as badly?

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Are their any other shortened names or nicknames for ships that seem mis-used or are weird to anyone?

dmwnc1
ID is the code used by RCCL/TAs when they are doing a booking etc for the Independence of the Seas.

No I am not a TA but I do spend a lot of my time (on my days off) online talking with friends at RCCL UK etc and it is much easier to use the code rather than continually type out the full name of the ship.
Funny you mentioned about pronunciation,I was recently wondering why it is that some folks pronounce "Royal Caribbean" differently?

recab ..thanks for the info on the sea trials, looking forward to seeing more pics,I have a few pages left in my album hahaha

sread...saw some of your pics recently...seems we missed each other by a day in April 07. Hey maybe this April we will meet.

Yes Steve it was LB. I believe you were on the two nighter? I was only one night..oh I cried when I had to leave her. I had such a fantastic time, though bit scary when I stood up to ask 3 questions at Common Ground on behalf of UK Cruisers.
I really really would like 2 nights on ID.(sorry dmwnc1)

I actually agree with dmwnc1. I don't like to abreviate a ships name either. However I don't mind doing it while typing.

Actually I don't mind QE2.

I wonder if it was the crew or passengers that started pet names for famous liners. Mauretania and Lusitania were the 'Maury and Lucy' and Berengaria was 'the Barry or Berry' as I recall. QE was called 'the Lizzie' and QM of course was 'the Mary'. ss Independence/Constitution were as posted the Indy/Connie.
