Does anyone know what will be being done when Brilliance will be going into refit this year?

How long is it in refit for?

Just returned from Brilliance a week ago. The upper staff stated that she would be going to Germany for her drydocking at the end of April or beginning of May. The indicated that it should take 3-4 weeks.

Based on what I saw, she is long past due for this. Lots of exterior rust and what appeared to he half-hearted touch-up painting on her very faded (chalky) exterior. While she has beautiful exterior lines, Brilliance looked quite sad next to other (and older) ships in port. It was a real disappointment for me, as I've always known RCI ships to be well cared for. Interiors weren't bad, though. She also had hot water issues while we were aboard.

P&OOfficer,

"Brilliance of the Seas" is expected to arrive at Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, April 27th. Besides usual cosmetic and technical refurbishments, she will receive a single diesel engine which will be used to generate electricity for the hotel department. "Jewel of the Seas" underwent a similar operation last fall.

"Brilliance of the Seas" will re-enter service May 15th with a Hamburg - Southampton short cruise.

Best,

Raoul

Raoul,

The main reason for BR going into dd at BVR is for the diesel generator installation.
The visit at Hamburg was scheduled for April 27 – May 18. However the visit has been shortened in order to let her make a short break cruise taking care of the overflow of pax on JW´s short breaks from Stockholm.
All of RCCL´s ships will get dg´s . As you write, JW was in for her retrofit (also at BVR) in October and as I write this, dg start up and testing is taking place. SR will have her retrofit in February and RD in April, both at GBS.
As for CEL´s ships, ML and CS went through the operations last year at Sobrena and the remaining two, SM is due in April and IN in November (most likely at Sobrena).

Forgive my lack of knowledge but I had to google "Sobrena" to find out where it was. I could not find if Summit is due in there, can it be confirmed. She has a 19 night break between the end of Trans At & next cruise on 29th April. Both end & start at Southampton. Brest is only a short sail across the channel. Have they a good reputation for finishing on time? my interest is we have booked the 29th cruise as only a short flight home from Barca & we have not been to any of the ports of call.

Malcolm - you like bargains under 100gbp per night, 29th is on teletext today for 629gbp for 12 nights on Summit & I think that i/c's air fare home! Eric

Eric,

they did complete "Millennium's" and "Celebrity Constellation's" dry-docks on time, so "Summit" would be the third ship to undergo the same operation there.

Best,

Raoul

Yes, ML was completed in time but only with the help of external help (from Finland).
CEL learned the lesson and had extra help with the CS and her operation went pretty smooth.
I also have to make clear that Infinity will go to GBS for her surgery Nov 15 - Dec 2.

Many thanks Raoul & recab for the info. She should be in pristine condition then for the 29th. I understand the first Millie passengers were satisfied with the condition of the ship when it went back in service. Eric

Yes Eric, I presume the SM will be in a good condition leaving Sobrena. As for the first ML passengers sailing after her dg retrofit, I have no comments.
