It still remains a strict corporate secret what kind of new innovations the Genesis will incorporate.

So i can give you only topics:

350

Thanks for the photo!! Such a tease you are.

I'm guessing that GENESIS will have lifeboats that have a capacity of 350 persons. It was widely rumored that GENESIS would have larger boats. Of course this must mean that Royal Caribbean was successful in getting the maritime laws changed from a 150 boat maximum capacity. Lifeboat capacity and evacuation procedures were two hurdles to building larger size cruise ships. If they were able to overcome these obstacles then I think it will open the door to even larger cruise ships in the future.

You mention "catamaran". I'm guessing that the lifeboats are a catamaran style boat, like many tenders already are. This would make sense if they are larger and have the increased capacity.

"Three stories"? Not sure about that one. I don't see the lifeboats taking up three stories nor do I think they will be three stories tall. Stumped on that one.

Thanks again for the tidbits!

Ernie

Are you saying that the life boats are going to be three stories tall? Catamaran style? That will lead to some obstructed views with the cabins. Are you allowed to tell us how many decks will have exterior balcony cabins? From looking at the photo on Aker's site, it shows eight decks of balconies. Thanks for the photos. Please feel free to share all that you want with us.

Thanks. I remember last December the Captain of the Jewel OTS telling us during a question and answer time that the life boats would hold over 300 passengers each.

Wow! I never thought of it that way. Yes, I have absolutely sailed on ships that carry less than 300 passengers.

The older I get the more I develop a taste for smaller ships. I truly enjoyed traveling with ships that carry much less than 300 persons.

Has a vessel with 150 person capacity lifeboats ever had to evacuate? let alone one with over 300 per boat. My feelings are it would be impossible to load them and get away. Bad enough the length of time taken loading a single tender.

300 person tenders could not be side by side, where would the people stand? Can you imagine being crammed in one of these when the sea sickness phenomena took over? Not the odd person, but the knock on effect on everyone else.

Pam

When I was on the ss Mariposa back in the late 1970s we had something like 370 passengers onboard our 14-day cruise. I also read recently that the ss Independence departed NYC on her maiden voyage in 1951 w/just over 500 passengers onboard. A different era!

My last-but-one cruise was onboard the "Alexander von Humboldt" (aka "Explorer II" aka "Minerva") with some 215 passengers onboard.

Three stories high could be the height of the promenade deck which are normally two and not the lifeboats themselves.

Actually this block looks like it could be the balcony cabins just above the promenade deck. It appears there is some davits or something there and promenade deck below them. What do you think?

I like the idea of seeing something different. These lifeboat will most probably be the way they are in the rendering. So will Genesis have 18 lifeboats, 9 on each side. These lifeboats might be more comfortable to enter and exit than those water van tenders, if they do something like this is for the better and not worse.

In inside press release Aker promises that Genesis will be more energyefficient per passanger, have a better fire safety and better evacuation possibilites and the ship is more stabil...
