Hi again !

I was visiting Genesis for the first time yesterday and i was amazed by the size of her!
There is not much aseembled yet, just the middle section of the ship.

There was Ice Rink "Studio B" on place, it wasent so wide as in Freedom ships. On Freedon we have some tables beside the windows where from you can't see on the ice directly, they have installed small monitors over the table... On Genesis we ain't gonna see this not wery populas gesign.
On genesis we don't seem to have a moving stand(like on freedom).

"Mannerheimin tie", "I95", main service corridor also bigger, wider so it looks promecing.
Hire some photos i want to share:

Im gona try to take some pictures of IOTS for you!

Aker Yards denies work on Genesis cruise ships falling behind schedule

HELSINKI (Thomson Financial) - Aker Yards ASA has dismissed a Finnish media report claiming the construction of the world's two largest cruise ships is in danger of falling behind schedule.

An Aker Yards' spokeswoman told Thomson Financial News the Norwegian shipbuilder is still on course to have the Genesis I ready by Autumn 2009 and its sister vessel, the Genesis II, by Aug 2010.

Citing information obtained from Aker subcontractors, today's edition of business paper Taloussanomat claimed the delivery timetables for the two ships ordered by Royal Caribbean Cruises (nyse: RCL - news - people ) (RCC) are under threat.

The fines Aker could face for a one-week delay on the Genesis ships run into millions of euros, the newspaper said.

Aker Yards issued ten days ago its third profit warning in six months, blaming problems related to the firm's under-pressure operations in Finland, where it operates three shipyards.

The company has highlighted the difficulty in finding enough skilled labour and problems in the subcontractor chain.

The space between the nearest blocks - could that be for a moon pool - will Genesis have its own submarine ?

It would be cool though if Genesis did have its own marina / sea pool for watersports etc. And they would make money out of it, think how many people on board buy tours to go diving, sailing, jet biking etc. They could charge less and still make a ton of cash. She would be the first large build to incorporate this.

Yes we have a generaly problems, but so far problems had Helsinki and Rauma yards. Now everybody talks about Genesis possible delays, still its early to say. I hope not.

I don't sign that problems are subcontractor chain and labour shortage.

I think its always tightening competition to get orders and not really sensible owners politics, and future Korean "STX" money dosen't make it easyer.

Bild a bigger ships in shorter time for less money! I'ts good thinking in business world i'm sure, but no "belt" will hold forewer and now we see some streching.

At the end we going to have cheap low quality product.

Some shipowners have asking lately "we order finnish ship but all the work is done by russians, why?"

Answer:bigger ships in shorter time for less money

Especialy subcontractors don't employ fins anynore, usually they engage people from romania, ukrain, russia and other low cost coutries.

So we wait and see ... hopefully aker delivers Genesis ships on time so we can bild more great ships in the future.

Let's hope for Aker's sake that construction of cruise ships continues in Europe. STX is there in the background waiting.

Aker builder, could you please let us know how much taller the Genesis will be over the Freedom? I have read on here that she will only be four feet taller but this ship has more decks of balconies than the Freedom. It looks like the Genesis starts the balcony cabins one deck lower than the Freedom but still trying to figure out how she can only be four feet higher.

Thanks,

Air draft for GN is four feet higher than on the Voyager and Freedom class vessels.
And the absolut maximum for passing under the Great Baeltbridge.

I guess the Great Belt Bridge was a design factor. How much higher can Genesis have gone?

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking - do you mean how tall she could have been if it weren't for the bridge?

Interestingly, I believe QM2 is too tall to go under the bridge, so she could never go into the Baltic.

QM 2 should be able to go under The Great Belt Bridge.
Ships up to a height of 65m can go under the bridge

http://www.storebaelt.dk/kollage/broen/broenfakta

QM 2 is about 72 m from keel to funnel, and her draft is about 10 m.

Sincerely René.

Hi
I was just looking at the area and it looks like if she cruises close to Copenhagen like near the airport and everything then there is no bridge. It would go down to the tunnel there so they wouldn't have to deal with the air draft.

Yes the limit is set by great belt bridge so Genesis is a little taller than freedom
