Royal Caribbean have called a press conference in New York for Tuesday April 15 at which they will "unveil the first of many marvels" to be featured on Project Genesis - "the ultimate evolution of innovation in ship design and vacation experience".
That's all the detail there is. Perhaps there's a clue in their headline: "When the sky is the limit, anything is possible"?

Great, now let the countdown begin.

Hopefully the names being chosen are better than what they are up to now.

"Sky is the limit?"

How about parasailing off the stern when the ship is underway???

Dave,
You read my mind! I thought the same thing. Maybe kite flying for the kids. Of course Save the Waves program might apply if a kite went into the sea! DOH!!

I fly a kite on nearly every cruise I go on now....I love it! I wonder if they will start that parasail thing off the back of the ship....seems like there could be issues with that if something ever went wrong. Be tough to stop a massive ship like that to go retreive someone where the line broke?? Maybe something more like a big ferris wheel that pivots out over the ocean?

With a ship this big, a heliport forward seems logical ---for those who don't want to wait in line for a tender. For a fee of course.

I guess this is too dangerous and too loud for a cruise ship.

With the news of a new pier being constructed at Labadee, I can't see a heliport tender being too logical.
On a different note, I've heard possibilities of the Viking Crown lounge to be a revolving resturant. I guess time will tell?!?

Really good pic of Genesis under construction at here. Clearly shows the space for "Central Park" or whatever with interior balcony cabins or if no roof is built over it they would be exterior. Given tonnage is based on enclosed psace I thin a roof will go on and also if there was no roof the deck space would be severly limited, form the pic they look to be up to deck 15 or 16 already ?

I doubt parasailing, too dangerous is someone fell in the wake ? Perhaps a telescoping crane observation platform or a walk over the funnel a la Sydney bridge or a lift up the mast ? Or a human cannon to shoot you over the side at Labadee ?! Easily done would be a walkway around the roof of the Viking Crown Lounge which would be a great view - why they haven't done that already I don't know.

I think bungee jumping over the side would be great fun while at anchor or in port.

So the ship yard image confirms the two 'towers' (thanks mike sa) and 'Aker Builder' confirms the absence of a roof, therefore I think the layout must be:

The pool deck area would appear to be limited by the 'hole' of Central Park, the Viking Crown lounge aft and the forward superstructure. Mind you it's a big hull so the square footage could still be quite considerable?

Just a thought, but isn't there a height limit beyond which the ship will be unable to go under a bridge and be confined to the Baltic for all eternity?

I have not seen any press release for the April conference, does anybody know were I can find one if there is any, I checked Sea Trade but nothing.

The last picture posted shows how fast she is coming along, I guess interior fitting will take very long. From the picture I noticed that the lower Royal promenade might have some natural lighting with skylights or domes placed above but in the floor of "Central Park", you can see a whole above the large blue container. It's a shame the picture is not bigger.

Sadly no, Doug - after today's crash in the UK (just 300 yards from my house) I'm off executive jets for a while!

While she is giong to be very big such a large hole in the topside deck is going to reduce the usable sunbathing/pool deck space given so many pax on board. The 2 areas alongside the "hole" are in effect 2 cabins wide each so not enough space for any pools so they will have to be fore or aft.

I wonder if any twit will try and climb the trees to see if he can reach the top deck.

She does appear to be very high - if right I am counting 16 decks already, assumming that is the top pool deck there will be at least another 4 decks on top of that plus mst / funnel etc. Unless that part of the ship is higher than the rest of it ie: a skyscraper type of thing and then fore and aft it is much lower ?

That was my thoughts, but RCI must have done the Math. Maybe the stern has a large sunbathing space and pool in a u shaped cut-out, maybe?

Maybe they expect people to sunbath in the park?

I was expecting the Royal Prom to have natuaral light - maybe it has with windows at the aft or even an open end?
