Hi all,

The cruise terminal schedule here in Hong Kong shows a call by a ship called "Spirit of Adventure II" in 2010:
http://www.oceanterminal.com.hk/ot/aboutus/schedules.html

It shows that the ship length is 164m. Any predictions? Can this be the SuperStar Gemini?

I thought SUPERSTAR GEMINI was a cert for Spain's Vision Cruises later this year as their much-touted but little-known VISION STAR! Perhaps not!

I do believe this is "Astoria" (which is 164 m long), as I had received word earlier already that she was being eyed by Saga as a running mate for the ex "Berlin".

Best,

Raoul

Hi

When Astoria was in service on the run to Cape Town she had problems maintaining the service speed required which was why she was sold.

This could be a disadvantage on round the world winter cruises if she is to replace Saga Rose.

This is the big question - is SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE II an add-on to that branch of the Saga family (joining SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE) or is she a replacement for SAGA ROSE under the Saga Cruises banner?

Neil ( Bob ),

"Astoria" has been operating world cruises ever since. While she had her problems on the liner run, it was the busy liner schedule that was a problem, not her ability to operate world cruises, for which she is actually very well suited as she has shown many times in the past. She will operate another four-month world cruise for Transocean Tours in 2008/2009.

And from what I've heard, she is not intended to be "Saga Rose's" replacement but a running mate for "Spirit of Adventure", i.e. for Saga's second brand.

Best,

Raoul

I guess the rumor is officially out in the open now!

It does seem that Saga is very close to buying ASTORIA as a second ship for the Spirit of Adventure brand.

This would mean that at least temporarily, Spirit of Adventure would become a two-ship brand while the "traditional" Saga brand goes down to one ship.

Saga is also expected to order a new ship, a proper replacement for SAGA ROSE, but obviously SAGA ROSE will have to retire before the new ship enters service.

Haco,

I have been unable to find anything on this on your web site. Could you help me finding the information?

So far, I have also not seen press releases from either party.

Best,

Raoul

Thats not a name it's a verb ! Strange choice, better when it was Spirit of Adventure II. Next will be Journey to Adventure, or Explore past Adventure, doesn't work and given the pax are highly literate..........

Even SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE II would be better than QUEST FOR ADVENTURE..... my opinion...

But however: a future for a nice ship!

How official do you want?

The 2009 Spirit of Adventure brochure includes the new ship with the inaugural cruise departing on July 1, and listing a programme going through to March 2010.

For those (like me) we are not lucky enough to have easy access to cruise brochures and have to rely on the internet, Spirit of Adventure's site is back up and running (after several days out) and with more details of the new Quest for Adventure, her refurbishment and itineraries.

They are obviously about to spend a fortune on her if the pics are anything to go by, in fact she probably will never looked as good. Very spacious with a space ratio of 42 which isn't bad, one sitting for dinner etc. If they would just crop her funnel a little she would look better externally too. Interesting cruises coming up, big gap of 2 months though in Jan/March. Serious serious competition for Discovery, Marco Polo etc.

Good on Saga they will do well with her, any betting they try for Astor in due course.
