Easy for me. Balmoral's useless funnel that covers the open decks and the water in the pools with sooty smuts.

Least favorite-not a favorite at all!! The shows with the same old singers and dancers in some cases 3-4 shows/week.I'd rather watch a movie if the ship has a theatre-some have free popcorn.

My favorite ship is Carnival Glory.
The thing I dont like about that is that it has Terriable flow. They split the dinning room into two and put one aft and the other amidships. That one cuts off the flow for that entire deck. Their is also lots of pilliars and bulkheads scattered throughout the promenade.

I didn't see the "favorite cruise line" bit.

I am tempted to say that my least favorite thing about it is that my favorite ship will no longer be in the fleet after this year but that would be too easy.

But otherwise, hands-down, the mass-market style push for "on-board revenue" with art auctions, gold by the inch and other such rubbish.

I don't mind the sales things, art auctions etc. what I do hate (and they all do ti now adays) is that they put up those horrid tacky tables around the atrium or wherever to display all the crap, fine inch of gold if you must but do we have to climb over the table to get to the bar !! Same with the art, some are highly questionable, do they have to shove them all over the ship on easels, put them in one place - if you want them you will find them.

Yes of course Mike, I wouldn't mind all this if it was tastefully tucked away but what would be the point of that?

I will admit that the "art" is not as conspicuously strewn around on Cunard as on many other lines... Thankfully.

On Celebrity they had a sort of bazaar on the pool deck with all the tables set up - yes, on the pool deck - on sailing day! Now that is really tacky. If that ever happens on Cunard I guess it will be time for me to find a new favorite.

What difference does it make if its at the pool? I can tell you Cunard is not above setting up bargain basement tables in the atrium selling crap like tee shirts and inch of gold. I certainly don't see how they are any better than Celebrity. If fact I don't believe I have seen the bargain basement tables in the atriums on Celebrity.

Turning the whole pool area (on a ship that had only one pool area) into a shopping center on sailing day seemed to be a new low to me.

Mind you, Cunard is only one step away from that. The crap that is strewn about everywhere is really intrusive and makes a mockery of Cunard's supposedly upscale status.

Basically what I am saying is that if Cunard goes one step further, that it will have really gone too far.

I too hate these tables, the majority of cruise lines do it. "Today Only".... sure; and most of the stuff is rubbish, those watches and so on. Polos, OK, but they will be the same price for the rest of the cruise if you want one. Celebrity Century certainly had tables all around the atrium. They also had more tables dotted about the lobby with info on the spa and jewellery to pick up.

P&O filled the whole reception area, far removed from the actual shops themselves.

An irksome thing to me regarding all of these sales and one-day-only specials is the amount of paper wasted on flyers to be put in your cabin. This happens on most cruise lines, yes, even on Cunard. How many evenings have you picked up the next day's programme in your cabin, stuffed with extra pages advertising this stuff, and those flyers immediately go into the waste bin?

I agree Rich, and the worst offender has to be Princess. I've never had so much crap waiting in my mailbox each day, and often multiple times each day. Divide those flyers by 2000+ passengers over multiple ships in the fleet, and you are talking about a lot of trees!

Ok, so Celebrity does, at least on the Century Class ships. I couldn't remember. I don't recall them on the M-Class ships but perhaps that is because the atrium is set up a little differently. I guess pretty much all cruise lines do it, although I can say with 100% certainty that Silversea does not!

Personally, this doesn't bother me half as bad as turning the atrium into a Filene's Basement bargain center.

As I recall, Celebrity sets up a table by the pool for all the revenue producing departments onboard (gift shops, photo, art auction, photography, bar, etc) for a few hours on sailing day only. It's sort of a one stop orientation to all the buying opportunities onboard. Some of the tables are just for information, to get you excited to buy later. While I don't like it, it doesn't bother me so much. Many people don't use the pool area on sailing day anyway, and I would prefer that over having the tables in the atrium.

If you ask me, those tables in the atrium should be banned due to safety regulations. If there were an emergency they would be a huge obstacle in the evacuation of the ship. That is my story and I am sticking too it!

Unfortunately they must be effective or all the cruise lines wouldn't be doing it.

Ernie

Those bargain tables are part of the price we pay for lower cruise fares. The lines (like most businesses) are looking for revenue anywhere they can. I have avoided these sales at sea but many passengers seem to enjoy it. I'm not a shopper and will never understand the thrill of it.

Hate is such a strong word, but I really dis-like the pizza on the Princess Grand/Crown class ships. The Sun class pizza is SOOO much better. Also, I don't like paying for ice cream (so I don't).

I would have to go with the endless announcements of Bingo at Noon, Art Auction at 1 etc..... If people really want to know about that stuff then they can read the flippin cruise compass, and if they cant read then they shouldnt be cruising... There is no need to have an announcement every 15 minutes

I don't like those art auctions. A/B the Zaandam they have them (2005) in the art gallery on Promenade deck squeezed in between shops the atrium stairwell, shore excursion and front desk. They put up so much chairs that the good passenger flow of the Zaandam was effected by it. Also it was irritating other passengers. After some complains at the front desk the removed some chairs and put up an screens to segregate the auction but that didn't work.

Oh well on the whole the Zaandam the Cruise was excellent and that count.

Greetings Ben.

I agree with you Ben. On the Veendam, they took over half of the Ocean Bar one day so we couldn't sit there because of the incessant loud speaches by the auctioneer. I wish they would get rid of them. They are a pain in the a**.!!
