Lovely, great light!

It's interesting that when you put the two together with no other ships in the picture, their huge scale is not so obvious. Each one sort of cancels out the effect of the other.

My dad was down on the 14th as well and his photography's improving. Hardly needed to straighten any! LOL!

Unlike Mary and Navigator last year who were silent, these two actually blasted to each other. Mary was a bit slow on the repeating though. They're in together twice next year.

Cunard Fan, they are. I think Indy isn't as impressive as Mary externally. Inside she's fabulous and has many plusses but she doesn't take your breath away when you look at her the way Mary does, even after all these years. Kudos to Carnival for creating Mary and all that stern deck space instead of cramming in more balconies. Wish more would. She is a fitting replacement for QE2 and by the time either I or Mary goes, I'll probably have more photos of her than even QE2 (which holds the record at the moment). What Cunard need to do is open the bow to pax then Mary will be perfect. I really am looking forward to hearing about your crossing. Are you counting the weeks?

Agreed! I still remeber the first time I ever saw her. She is a amazing ship!

More like counting the seconds! I can't wait!!!! 3 months seems like such a long time!! This will be my first time on a functional ship (unless you count ferrys) and it will also be my first time to Europe.
There actually a small chance I might not go though, but I am pretty positive that I will go. I really really really really am looking forward to it!!

When was that? I saw her when she arrived in 2003. Unfortunately I was ill so couldn't go and get drenched like everyone else but I couldn't believe her size when she came round the trees as I waited by the window. The rain lightened just long enough for her to pass then it came down heavy again. When I passed her on the ferry for Three Queens Day I was still in awe of her. Silly really.

I hope you do. You've waited sooooooo long. You deserve to get to that pier, board, have your first Afternoon Tea in the Queen's Room and sail across the Atlantic to see the gorgeous one back here! One of my cousins has told me he's doing a transat on Mary in October but I'm still waiting for him to tell me which one. He'll probably tell me when he's been! LOL! We all want LOADS of pics, which I'm sure you'll get anyway. Even if you never do this again you'll have done the tandem. There's really nothing better than coming in with the QE2. Pam and I did that last Sunday when we were behind her so had to slow while she turned. It was magnificent and will be the only time I'll have come in with her in her home. No idea about Pam. LA was good but too dark until we were nearer. This was better as the sun was up. Imagine going into NY (even though you'll be Brooklyn) with her. Imagine the reception you'll probably get. You'll remember that for the rest of your life.

Back in 2006 when she called at Los Angeles for the first time. Heres some pictures.

That day I got up at around 4:30 in the morrning (unusual for me) and then precedded to yell "QUEEN MARY 2 IS HERE" and wake everyone in the house up so we could go down nice and early to see her. It was kind of hectic that day, I had been told that the QM2 would be going to Long Beach that day to meet the Queen Mary. After we got there a security gaurd informed us that it was actually going to be the next day and that the QM2 was already in San Pedro. So after that we hurried over to SP and as we were going over the bridge in Long Beach to SP I remeber looking to see if I could see the ship but I couldn't, then after a minute I saw her funnel and realized that I was looking strait at her but she was so huge I thought I was looking at a building! It was amazing and also a very special moment for me.

I really really hope I go to!! Your right I have waited a long time for this and now it looks like I finally might be going! I nearly went berserk when I found those 2 crossings. I didn't even know about tham, I just found out about them by accident! I am so excited about the fact that I will be sailing next to QE2 for 6 days!! I just finished reading your review for your cruise last week, your pictures of QE2 and Boudicca were really nice. I will be sure to take tons of pictures of her for you!
I will also be sure to have tons and tons of pictures of QM2 and and long review for all when I get back!

Can't wait!

Its surprising that although the size seems to cancel each other out, QM2 has that more 'imposing' look doesnt she?

Well a box boat that is more streamlined than a liner ! Never thought it but these pics show how RCI is very clever with the design, those carefully placed lines give IOS very subtle curves that hide her waist and her bulk. Placing the bridge lower also helps. By comparison QM2 is quite boxy albeit with a beautiful pointy end ! Oasis may end looking quite racy !

If you paint the hull of QM2 white it's even worse. QM2 is certainly a very fine ship but I never undestood why so many people prefer her rather clumsy exterior to the appearance of other cruise ships. (I guess the dark hull helps a lot)

I think QM2s' stern is certainly more attractive in a traditional sort of way at least as far as the lumpy bit near the waterline. Anyway I am really looking forward to my first trip in a few weeks time. Hope it lives up to, or even better exceeds expectations.

Cunard Fan, great pics. And you got Ronald Warwick! Pity he didn't do a huge cheesy grin for you. A friend of mine was on the QM2 for the meeting with Mary 1. I was in Australia at the time but tried to watch the webcam before going out to see the QE2 arrive in Fremantle. The webcam froze. Wasn't happy. She does look like a building but a classy building unlike so many others. Often these days when I look at webcams I wonder if one's pointing at a building or a ship.

You won't be able to contain your excitement as each day takes you closer to the QE2 and the tandem. It was great seeing her on QV's webcam in January night and day. Were you watching that? I wish they would do something about Mary's then we can see the QE2 on hers in October. They didn't even raise it for the Three Queens in April so you saw a bit of QE2's waterline as Mary passed. I enjoyed coming in with her last weekend. As we were both for the same time it was 50/50 who would be last so I'm glad it was us. The light was right even if the wind wasn't. I'm getting really excited for Wednesday's cruise. I'm meeting up with the friends I'm going with tomorrow so won't be able to reply to you until I'm back. You will have a ball on Mary and I know you will photograph every possible inch in-between having lots of fun.

Yes it was very cool seeing Warwick. For a while we were waveing back and forth at each other, though you don't see that in the pictures.

You know I almost booked that same cruise that your going on on wendsday. I seriously considered do ing it cause first of all I wanted to sail on QE2 and secondly I wanted to go to Norway (mostly cause of Galaxys pictures) however Cunard never got back to me about the cruise.

Yeah I was watching QV and QE2's webcams in January. Its was really interesting. lol Thinking about it only makes it harder to wait for my voyage!
