Cruise West 's Spirit of Glacier Bay ran aground yesterday near Glacier Bay National Park in southeastern Alaska. The 207-foot cruise ship was carrying 24 passengers when she ran aground around 7:15 am Monday. A coast guard vessel was able to free the cruise ship about 9 hours later as the tide came back in and there appeared to be some damage to the ship's hull. Passengers and some crew were transferred in the afternoon to the Fairweather Express II, a National Park Service tour boat, headed to Bartlett Cove and then to Juneau.
