Hello, was just wondering if the Queen Victoria`s stern has been repaired after her little mishap when docking in Malta ?

After looking at Ernie's pics (see his QV review) of her stern from his recent cruise on her, the stern looks like it has had a piece of steel welded over the dent. Maybe a proper repair will be done at a later date.

These were taken on her return on the 14th May and followed immediately on from Tony's at Gibraltar.

They painted it during that cruise.

With the dents in that red leaded area it looks as if more filler may have been used.

Check out Ernie's close-up pics of her stern from his recent cruise. You can clearly see where the dent was plated over. The average person not knowing what happened probably would'nt notice it.

Definitely an improvement but you can still see part of the damage. She's normally at Mayflower rather than QEII so it makes it harder to get updated photos so I'm glad to see Ernie's. They didn't do a bad job considering the damage.

I very much doubt they will do more than they have already done, to panelbeat it out or cut it out then replate would be hideous expensive and need dry dock time. Plating it over cures the problem as there would not be any machinery etc behind there. I suspect she will go to Alang one day with the patch in place.

Heh her insurance premiums may now come down - after all she is now semi double hulled..........

The plate welded on the stern will certainly be removed and the damage fixed properly at the next drydocking, which according to Lloyd's Register is due in late November 2010.
